IHD Tariff Update Request More Troublesome Than Normal

Just thought I'd blow the dust off this old thread to log that after 9 months of no smart meter problems my statement showed that only the electric meter reading was pulled this month. Every month since Sep 23 both readings have been taken on the 6th of the month without fail. No smart gas reading was taken yesterday so I've submitted a manual one today.

I'll wait to see if it resolves itself but I'm in no rush to report the issue in case things get even worse if a 'fix' is attempted 😬. I notice there's no Health Checker on the online account any more to tell me my gas meter is no longer smart. It still shows daily gas consumption on the IHD so presumably it's a comms issue.

It was good while it lasted 😁
I'm an Eon Next dual fuel customer with no particular expertise but have some time on my hands that I am using to try and help out a bit.

My gas meter has failed to send smart readings in since April and they both failed to send them in May and June. It's a comms issue with mine too, because the meters are working, and so is the IHD, albeit that the gas tariff on the IHD is still showing the pre April rates. I reported it when they failed to pull smart readings on 25th June, but the 'Energy specialist' I spoke to on the phone said there was nothing wrong, so I've just left it for now too.

I think the Health Checker has disappeared on everyones accounts, possibly because of Eon Next mistakenly saying there were 'errors' on accounts, just because customers weren't paying by fixed DDs, or taking up fixed rate tariffs.

Gas meters are more problematic than electric meters because they rely on a battery to power the radio connection with the comms hub. I know you both know this but for newcomers......

If the IHD is reporting gas readings OK then its not a gas meter to comms hub problem, as the comms hub is getting and sending data to the IHD, and so as you say a comms issue. As far as i understand it, meter reads are done by the supplier sending a specific request to the meter and getting a satisfactory response back. So if the request doesn't get through or the response fails = no recorded reading. But it may just be a temporary glitch. It it keeps failing then its not a temporary glitch.

What does the bright app say? If those are getting through OK then it may be a specific Eon Next Issue.

I wonder now if my gas meter comms issue will spread to my leccy meter next month 🤔

If I have to submit one reading then it won’t be much more bother to submit two, I suppose. Not the end of the world but it’s nice when they work as they should.

Gas meter reading on IHD has increased in line with usage since I submitted a reading this morning and consumption showing in the Bright app is bang up to date to 6pm this evening. All working ok from my perspective. Just no reading pulled this time.

Hopefully a glitch but time will tell. You might get to experience these joys soon I see 👍

Looking at both my Bright and Eon Next app electricity usage is consistently shown, gas on the other hand is more erratic.
One app will show gas and the other won't and vice versa. The IHD will show both consistently. 🤔😉

At this moment in time Bright shows no gas reads for last week but Eon Next app does. Electricity shows in both. 🌞 What happens this week who knows.

Since the beginning of the year I've received accurate (compared with my manual reads) monthly statements from smart reads. Long may it continue 🤞 but no breath holding.

Hopefully the comms issue won't spread to the leccy one. It's maybe just a one-off glitch, and will correct itself next month. I'm waiting to see what happens with mine on the 25th of this month.

Hey, that’s good news about the smart meters doing their job 👍

I get some gaps in Bright and just had a look a minute ago but apart from this morning’s gas usage there’s nothing in there at all 🤔

Eon Next app is the usual three days late with any data 🙄

No issues in County Durham. Another month of smart meter reads taken on the due date (1st) with both readings (and the generated transactions) showing on the account later in the day (circa 2300) with the accurate bill (tallies with my own spreadsheet data) arriving the next morning on the 2nd. My IHD continues to given accurate information on a daily basis for both utilities. I guess I'm one of the lucky ones. 😁

    Tis good news 🤞but.......
If you only had access to one piece of technology and remove common sense and pen and paper that's where the problems begin. Not as simple as the advert.
Agreed about Eon Next app but for me they both have their problems. If I combine the two plus IHD and spreadsheet that seems to work. 🤓
    Hey ho 🌞.
