👍 Although you can't beat pre-smart Landis and Gyr models from the 90s. They're completely idiot (and Eon) proof.
Don't shoot me, I'm only the piano player. I DON'T work for or on behalf of EON.Next, but am willing to try and help if I can. Not on mains gas, mobile network or mains drainage. House heated almost entirely by baby dragons.

😂 Definitely Eon proof. The last time the tariffs were right was when they were under the watchful eye of NPower, I think. 😂. Couldn't be totally accurate on that though.
I'm sure most of you do this anyway but here is my take.
I pay absolutely no attention to whether the IHD has correct tariff information on it (or either the meters for that matter). As far as the tariff information goes I always ensure that the tariff rates that I see on my online account match up with what they should be. They always have. This correct tariff rates are fed into my OpenOffice spreadsheet and obviously get updated at tariff change dates. The only thing I assiduously use the IHD for is for the history usage (kWh NOT £), specifically the previous day, and that gets fed into spreadsheet most mornings. Averages are automatically calculated plus a calculation of likely amount of the month bill. After 6 days this month my estimate for June's dual-fuel usage was £83.94 and today after 25 days this had DROPPED to £83.76🤣
The only way I can see the IHD being at all useful are for folk that need an accurate daily £ spend. For almost everyone else, esp those on monthly DD, the daily amount is almost irrelevant as fluctuations automatically occur for a variety of reasons.
With you there. My electricity costs what it costs. I have zero control over the SC or unit price but have absolute control of any and all my consumption over baseline loads (two freezers, fridge, router and other always on devices such as the smoke detectors and cordless phones).
But compared to my consumption this time last year my rolling average is around 7.8kWh/day. Last year, nearer 20kWh/day. Despite the recent price rises, my bills have significantly reduced. So knowing my daily costs (which I do as my spreadsheet tells me) is much less important than knowing my exact usage.
I'm planning on retiring a freezer this year which will give me an average of about 6kWh/day. That's well within the safe zone for going off grid.
I too keep spreadsheets (handwritten) and monitor my usage. The daily consumption in monetary terms as shown on the IHD is a quick glance check to see what kind of a day it’s been. The family pay close attention to that daily amount and comment frequently about saving energy. That never happened before the IHD was plonked where it sits.
A handy little of bit of kit that I would just like working as it should.

You've got them well-trained Joe. In a previous life when I had teenogres in the roost, I ended up fitting a sub-meter into each boy's bedroom so they (and I) could see exactly how much they were wasting, er, I mean using. When that didn't cause the penny to drop, I swapped them for coin-operated prepay meters. That did the trick. 🤑
