I think I'll soldier on with my old diesel for now. 60mpg, zero road tax and loads of filling stations. Incidentally, I filled up at local Tesco last week for 133.9p per litre, which was the same as unleaded. Now seeing diesel cheaper than unleaded at many places.
I'm an Eon Next dual fuel customer with no particular expertise but have some time on my hands that I am using to try and help out a bit.
I think you are doing exactly the right thing. On my way down to the south coast last week I saw diesel cheaper than petrol. It was somewhere along the A34. 133.9p diesel 139.6p petrol. It smashed a long cherished theory that motor fuel in the south is more expensive than the north. Hence I filled up completely before setting off so didn't need to stop. Hey ho 🙃.

Good call. I fully intend to keep my 17 year old diesel going for at least another 3 years. Diesel has been cheaper than petrol in Wales for a couple of weeks now, and prices are still falling.
Did you know, you have to own a diesel car for nine years from new to 'pay back' the front-loaded carbon emitted during its manufacture? Ten years for a petrol vehicle and thirteen years for an EV. If you buy a nine year old second-hand diesel car, that payback has already happened. Keep it for another nine years and it is effectively 'carbon neutral'. Compared to the environmental impact of replacing it with an EV, it's actually more environmentally friendly and just as economical to run a well-maintained diesel for as long as possible.

Reason: Typo
Don't shoot me, I'm only the piano player. I DON'T work for or on behalf of EON.Next, but am willing to try and help if I can. Not on mains gas, mobile network or mains drainage. House heated almost entirely by baby dragons.
Mine is now 8 years old and a smidge off 100k miles. I bought it new but not that long ago they used to have more miles on than that when I bought them… then I’d take them to 200k. Interesting the bit about carbon payback… another year then for me and my jallopie 🚙

Good news about fuel being cheaper the further south you go. Now then… about the price of beer 🍺
A pint of that round here is very expensive...£3.80 a pint bottle in some places. I drink the 'cooking bitter' at £3.20 a pint. There are a couple of pubs that serve Felinfoel Double Dragon, which is a lovely drop, but too far from me to risk driving!

A diesel isn't properly run in until it has 200k on the clock 🤣🤣🤣. I once owned a Peugeot 309 diesel that I bought at 136k and I finally scrapped at about 400k. Nothing wrong with it apart from me leaving it at work one night and the local oiks smashing every light and window on it. From 200k onwards I ran it on neat cooking oil at 27p a litre. Saved me a fortune commuting from Southampton to Whitehaven and back every weekend.
Running a car on cooking oil would save a fortune, I believe McDonalds use their recycled cooking oil as fuel for their delivery trucks. King Charles has an old Aston Martin that he had converted to run on a biofuel made from wine and cheese. I remember the joke someone told: 'I hope he drives 'caerphilly' 🤣🤣
