my night time metre comes on at 11pm for one hour then switches back over to day metre for one hour 12pm until 1 pm then goes back on for another six hours

is this normal or should i be worried ?

should'nt it be on a constant for 7 hours without the hour break in between ?

Ok, you have a dual rate meter, which we know from the pictures and the 02 confirms that. Your Time Code is 39 which is not an industry-standard code but region/DNO specific. South Western Electricity Board at the time the meter was installed, but now you come under Western Power/National Grid. Your economy 7 times are 2300 to 0000 for an hour, then 0100 to 0700 for another six hours in summer and then an hour earlier for all timings when the clocks revert to GMT.

If you had the meter changed to a smart meter, likely you would be given a straight seven hour block, but I would personally stay as you are with that meter and avoid going smart at all costs.

I'll need to see photos of your meter first to figure this out. There can be cases where E7 is broken up across two periods. Rare but not impossible.

It looks to me like this meter is well past its sell-by date which might be why this is happening. I've got two options that I can think of, please consider both of them and go down whichever route you feel comfortable with.

Option 1 is that you get this meter tested with a Meter Accuracy Test and/or report it as potentially faulty. This may cause a £160 charge if the meter is found to be accurate, but you'd get that refunded if it's found to be incorrectly recording usage and the meter would be replaced. I'd recommend this route if you think it's over or under recording usage.

Option 2 is that you simply get the meter upgraded to a Smart Meter without doing a fault report. This route is much faster as the upgrade can simply be booked in and the meter swapped out for a brand new one that's basically guaranteed to not have this issue. However, you wouldn't get any refunds that may be possible with option 1 (though you also don't gamble the £160 either).

Option 3 is do nothing and leave things as they are. It's an unwritten rule that I have to provide this option (even though I don't like it!) because I've had people elsewhere in the past try to accuse me of being biased, forcing them to pay £160 fees or forcing people into getting Smart Meters. Providing this option is my solution to those naysayers, but it's definitely not the option I'd choose if it were me.

Hey @garyfrog Can I ask what times you're noticing this click over and then back again? Usually E7 times can vary however the majority are between 00:15am and 07:15am. I'm going to send you some information that may help and then we can look into this further for you.

Yes, you get seven hours of off peak rate, but your local DNO region and time code is one of the several regions that splits the seven hours into two blocks. Just the way it is, i'm afraid. Nothing you can do.
