I'm in the process of getting an EV chargepoint installed in my home. The EV company says before they can carry out the installation, I will first need to install a isolation switch an upgrade of my meter tails. Who do I ask to carry out this work: e.on (energy supplier) or Northern Powergrid (distributor for my region)?
Any ideas? Thanks
Leo

That sounds much more ominious than exactly the same work as putting in a new electric cooker circuit. If you live in a house like mine, then your existing electricity bill provider (someone like EoN) can tell you or your electrician what sort of existing meter tails go into your house. For example mine are 100 Amp. A properly qualified electrician is the right person to safely add a new residual current device (RCD) safety cutout and new heavy wiring to outside. The best places to tell you of a good electrician in your region is the shop or builders merchant where trades go for their supplies.
Current Eon Next customer, ex EDF, Zog and Symbio. Don't think dual fuel saves money and don't like smart meters. Chronologically Gifted. If I offend let me know by private message, but I’ll continue to express my opinions nonetheless.
Thanks, guys. I called e:on. Apparently they are able to book in an visit to install the isolator and upgrade the tails, at a cost of around £100. Should be all sorted.
Not too shabby. I'm lucky that I already have an isolator as my consumer unit is 20 metres away from the meter. When I do any electrical work, I can isolate the entire house with the single switch. Mind you, it's a 60A supply and I'm never getting an EV charger, or an EV for that matter🤣
Don't shoot me, I'm only the piano player. I DON'T work for or on behalf of EON.Next, but am willing to try and help if I can. Not on mains gas, mobile network or mains drainage. House heated almost entirely by baby dragons.
@LMcCann Just wanted to check in and see if you had got this sorted? Let me know if you need anything.
Thanks

Hi Lee
Yes, all sorted now, thanks. An e.on technician came round last week and installed the isolator switch. Very pleased with the work.
Best regards
LM
