    Hey everyone!

    Update

Our EV tariff, Next Drive is now available 🥳

    🔌🚗

There are eligibility criteria that you must meet in order to be able to go onto the tariff, and as long as you're good to go, you're golden!

So how does the tariff work, and how do I get onto it?

The new tariff has been set up differently to how our previous Next Drive tariff worked.

It’s a Time of Use (ToU) tariff, meaning we'll no longer bill to meter readings and instead we use the half-hourly consumption data from your Smart Meter to bill for usage for EV charging.

If you have a Smart 2-rate meter (Economy 7, 2 meter readings) and you're eligible. This tariff will show as available in your online account when you click on 'Get a Quote' and this is what you'll see:

On a single rate Smart Meter? Please read on...

    Eligibility requirements:

    • Your electricity must be on supply with E.ON Next
    • You must have a SMETS2 (second generation) Smart Meter or a SMETS1 (first generation) Smart Meter that is enrolled with the Data Communications Company (DCC) - so we're receiving your meter readings.
    • You must consent for your Smart Meter to send us half-hourly meter readings
    • You'll need to pay by Direct Debit (either a Variable Direct Debit or a Fixed Direct Debit)
    • You'll need to have an online account
    • You'll need to have an email address on your account, and consent to receiving communications from us via email

    Good to go? 😄

This tariff is available to both existing customers and new who meet the eligibility criteria.

    • Existing customers - You will be able to get a quote in your online account.
    • New Customers - You can obtain a quote online from our website

If you fall into the eligibility criteria above and you're not able to see the tariff through your online account or you're a brand new customer unable to get a quote online, you'll need to contact customer service and speak to an Energy Specialist.

An Energy Specialist will take some details from you. They'll then pass this onto our dedicated team who are managing the Next Flex Drive tariff and they will give you a call to go through a quote with you within 5 working days.

And don't forget folks, if you don't have or want a smart meter, then driving a 15 year old diesel that does over 50mpg and passes it's emissions and MOT with no trouble is still cheaper and surprisingly more environmentally friendly than getting an EV.

Don't shoot me, I'm only the piano player. I DON'T work for or on behalf of EON.Next, but am willing to try and help if I can. Not on mains gas, mobile network or mains drainage. House heated almost entirely by baby dragons.

So @PeterT_EONNext, what do the prices look like? In these current tough times that is a prime consideration for nearly everybody. If you can quote for a middle ranking region that would do as an indication.
Current Eon Next customer, ex EDF, Zog and Symbio. Don't think dual fuel saves money and don't like smart meters. Chronologically Gifted. If I offend let me know by private message, but I’ll continue to express my opinions nonetheless.

Try telling that one to Mayor Khan in London. Still it means the rest of the country will benefit from increased 2nd hand supply when Londoners sell rather than scrap their non ULEZ compliant vehicles.

Just a theoretical question to ask (not for my benefit 🤣 but that others might be wondering) :

Can a SMETS2/SMETS1 single-rate meter be converted to a two-rate without replacing the original meter?

    @Mailman

SMETS1, not that easy. SMETS2 just takes a single configuration message from the supplier/DCC. The specification explicitly states that is part of the functionality.

Yup. My Euro 4 diesel is not ULEZ compliant although the emissions tests at MOT time say otherwise. Fortunately, I don't get into inner London too often.

@PeterT_EONNext Hi Peter - we meet all of the criteria (although our smart meter isn't plugged in at this time but we'd be happy for it to be for next drive) I left my details on the page over a week ago and haven't heard anything yet and my new EV is unexpectedly turning up early this week with our current Next tariff ending on June 18th.

Is there anyway you can help get us on the Next Drive tariff please?

    Thanks
    Sam

@SamU94 Hi Sam, so the Smart meter will be on all the time as it's hard wired into the grid. The IHD which is what I believe to be the device you're plugging in and unplugging is just a wireless device for in the home to monitor your usage, that device is purely for visual information.

The In home Display (IHD) should have no effect on your smart meter sending us reads or recording them every 30 minutes as required. The best thing to do Sam is to reach out to our customer services team and they will be able to assist you further.

Let me know how you get on or if you have got this sorted already?

    Thanks

I don't seem to be able to get a quote for this tariff on the website - the redirects for login (even though I am already logged in) seems to throw the website off the trail!
