After reading other posts, issues around data capture from SMETS2 ‘not so smart’ meters have become an ever-frequent ongoing cause of customer frustration, therefore; since we all pay standing charge ( which is for maintenance of the line, the system & the apparatus ) don’t we all deserve a smart system that actually functions as per contract agreement? Just a simple late evening thought from someone who feels undervalued.
Gas reads not being read remotely by DCC
-
Hi, Polled data with respect to our electrical energy advances have always been collected ok, but gas reads haven’t been able to be collected for quite a long time. However, since the new prices from April 1st dropped into the settings on our IHD …. suddenly gas started to work, they then became sporadic & now reads seem to have stopped being collected again. We’ve been sending manual reads in for ages anyway & now, quite all of a sudden, our daughters smart meter has also gone belly up & stopped polling data for the last month !

I've had a smart meter for some years now. I really wanted one and jumped at the chance when it was offered to me.
Knowing what I know now, and having the experience, I wouldn't recommend having one installed. Not until the technology, infrastructure and protocols are standardised. As a very learned member of this forum also said "smart metering needs to remove at least two intermediaries from the system. DCC and OFGEM for starters" .
The future is rosy but not until then.
My smart meter has been more a dumb/dim meter.
For the moment there is nothing like the good old spreadsheet! -

Hi, Once we realised that SMETS1 was enveloped with so many issues, then; we sat back & waited until SMETS2 was up & running. Mainly because we have solar panels & SMETS1 can struggle with dealing with them.
SMETS 2 clearly shows import & export registers on the meter display sequence & the IHD clearly identifies when our algebraic sum is exporting. So, we’re happy with electric functions & reads, it’s just our IHD’s inability to comprehend dealing with our gas properly. Total let-down !
I did manage to get a promise of a free replacement IHD to be installed by an Eon engineer ( after I repeatedly stressed what standing charge is actually for & why we pay it ) but alas; when I submitted my date, no one ever came 😮.
So, I treat both meters as dumb metering, submit reads myself ( yes, standing charge contains a precept for ‘actual’ meter reads you know ) & then keep an eye on our IHD to see if we can put the toaster or washer on for free etc 👀. It’s about all our IHD is good for 😮. -
An IHD rather reminds me of my ex-wife. Neither any practical use nor real ornamental value and, with the benefit of 20:20 hindsight, nothing but an almost constant irritation. 🙄Don't shoot me, I'm only the piano player. I DON'T work for or on behalf of EON.Next, but am willing to try and help if I can. Not on mains gas, mobile network or mains drainage. House heated almost entirely by baby dragons. -

Yes, but since gas reads are inconsistently being remotely read, then this suggests the link between them is dropping in & out @ random.
Our IHD was displaying incorrectly with the wrong price for gas for the whole of last year but did measure the gas usage against these incorrect settings 😳 The patch sent out for both of the new prices ( as our fix ended ) did jump into the settings on the IHD & are correct, but now gas usage comes & goes 🤷🏼♂️.
If autonomous electric cars prove to function like smart metering, then there’s a big problem on the way 😂 -
@Spark57 That is so strange! Perhaps getting in contact with Customer Services to investigate your random gas readings?

My gas readings to the DCC are erratic and have asked CS to look into it for me. The reply I've had is this:
Good morning , I have received an update from the smart metering team. This is that the issue is to do with the firmware and this needs to be updated.

The very latest update says it will sorted sometime this year. 🙃
Electric readings are no problem.
