And state pensions are paid 'in arrears' so if the rates change, there is usually a delay, which will be sorted by the next payment, according to Radio 4's Moneybox programme.
Yes. My first state pension payment was for one day and was paid on my 66th birthday. I had to wait another four weeks to get my first full whack.
Hang on… I haven’t had my prize for answering the first question yet.
Your answer was correct but not necessarily for the right question. 🤣
But in the interest of fair play I've decided to give you a 🏆 to put on your mantelpiece.
BTW I am yet to receive my state pension (next April) - all I'm getting are my private pensions (paid monthly).
To put you out your misery, the pensions I receive have their annual rate increased on the first Monday following the start of the tax year. Been bugging me for a number of years trying to work out the first payment in April as this month is made of a pro-rata mix of old pension rate and new pension rate. Of course this pro-rata mix has varied from year to year because this Monday has been on a different date each year since I retired. 😀
My notice of coding for 2023/24 contains the correct figure for the year - presumably donated by DWP. When I’m doing my tax return I just use the figure from the appropriate notice of coding.
Remember that every few years there is an extra week in the tax year, because of leap years and the normal 52 weeks and one day. I’m a sad person ……..

I have to admit that over the many years I have received one of my pensions I have just accepted the April payment for what it is - partly at the old rate and partly at the new rate. I’ve never tried to work it out. Thanks for my trophy 👍
@JoeSoap Hi,
Has the issue with incorrect tariff rates being sent to IHDs been sorted yet do you know? I received an email reply saying there had been some technical issue with the introduction of a new tariff for non DD customers. I suggested they contact their customers informing them of the issue but of course nothing has been done. Two weeks since i contacted them and no further contact.
Sorry to bother you but you seem to have a lot of sensible answers to other issues.
Stay Safe and Keep Smiling.
I really don’t know what the current state is with updating IHDs but I do know others are still having problems getting it done. My meters are SMETS 2 and the IHD has been updated but I gather SMETS 1 meters are more of a problem. All I can suggest is sending an email to hi@eonnext.com with Request IHD Tariff Update in the subject line and your details in the text but you’ve probably already done this.
Hi @JoeSoap
yeah already contacted them on a few platforms. A week ago they said they are aware of a problem and we're working on it but had no timescale for a fix.
I may try again, often it is quicker to get a reply here.
TBH I don't know the difference between smets 1 and 2. Our Smart meter was only fitted last march so would assume it would be a 2
Should be a SMETS 2 as you say so unless you have E7 or solar panels or something it should be straightforward to get it updated. Trouble is, you get them updated and then another tariff change comes along in July.
@JoeSoap
we do have solar panels, but I googled the difference and it seems like it is a Smets2.
Thanks for the quick replies as always. I will ask them for an update again.
