Any suggestions of how I can get a refund? I have also considered cancelling the direct debit for a few months, and let them use my 'credit' to pay for the bills.
EonNext holding £100s of your money?

I pay by direct debit and I am over 1K in credit with E.On Next. How do I get a refund? I would like to keep a small amount of money there, as a buffer, just in case. But I am definitely not spending as much as they think I would be spending, and each month my credit is going up.

One option. Phone up customer services and request a switch to variable direct debit which means you pay your bill in full every month. That way, you won't have a direct debit taken until all your credit has been used up.
If you just want a partial refund, @JoeSoap has written a piece here

Don't shoot me, I'm only the piano player. I DON'T work for or on behalf of EON.Next, but am willing to try and help if I can. Not on mains gas, mobile network or mains drainage. House heated almost entirely by baby dragons. -

Thanks! I called them now (10 min wait) and asked for a variable direct debit. All sorted! -

Happy days. You should be good for a few months with them not taking any payments until your credit balance runs out. 👍
