Don't shoot me, I'm only the piano player. I DON'T work for or on behalf of EON.Next, but am willing to try and help if I can. Not on mains gas, mobile network or mains drainage. House heated almost entirely by baby dragons.
Two MSC qualified electricians came to remove my solar panels today and the system is completely isolated ready for the new roof to be installed. Although they will replace the panels and brackets I am not confident that they will be fitted properly without compromising the integrity of the roof, so I’m going to leave them off.
Im told I could sell them on eBay and that’s probably what I’ll do.
I see @retrotecchie gave some great advice here for you.
How did you get along with the new roof fitting? I hope it all went smoothly for you. We had a new roof installed a few years back, it was decided our solar panels would stay off to protect the roof, they were older style with tubes and most probably coming to the end of their cycle anyway. Unfortunately we came across a whole host of other issues once the roof was removed and the job that was quoted 3 weeks actually took 3 months in all 👀 not great when you are still living at the property while the work is carried out, but it does look great now!

The two local MSC qualified electricians could not convince me that they could refit the panels to the roof to an acceptable standard, so they are currently stored in the garage until I decide what to do next.
I am about to make a decision about selling my bungalow to downsize to a retirement apartment. If new buyers want to refit them later, I’ll leave them in the garage. If I don’t move and I want a solar PV system, I think a new system with a battery is the way to go, but finding a good installer is not easy. The roof trusses are already damaged from the first company that Eon used to install the panels. They’ve now gone out of business. If anyone asks for my advice about installing solar panels I would tell them to think twice. If they still want them, get an “expert” to oversee their installation.
Oh I'm sorry it didn't work out as expected. I agree 100% it's important to ensure that they are installed by experts in the field that know exactly what they are doing and I would say get reviews from other customers who have used the company that are installing too to ensure they are reputable, the last thing you would want is roof damage.
I don't know much about the battery systems myself as I haven't had experience with them but I have heard good things, perhaps @retrotecchie or @wizzo227 might have some better insight for you 😊
Hmmm interesting @retrotecchie 🤨 I'm curious now...I guess you aren't a fan 😆 I really should do some research as I don't have much experience with solar.
I'm a fan but not the way 'the system' is promoting them, the fact that they promote brown energy, allow those with the means to benefit at the expense of the less wealthy punters and don't provide any solutions whatsoever to the real energy crisis problems. More than that, deponent sayeth nothing.

Then I shall ask no more questions 😂 @retrotecchie
Did you get this sorted? Are the panels still off the roof? @retrotecchie is correct in terms of needing an MCS accredited installer to carry out work etc, the only thing I would like to add to this thread is, if any changes are made to the system they must be like for like and not effect the total installed capacity or declared net capacity.
Not really relevant however just wanted to get that added in, just in case we re-visit this. I'm happy to help if you haven't managed to get this sorted yet? Let me know?
@retrotecchie Appreciate this is an old thread but as always, appreciate your answers and knowledge on solar. The brown energy thing, i'm still processing to understand that and why it's changed.
