Hi, I had an email the other day informing me my prices were going up which surprised me as when I renewed in May I was on the fixed 1 year v9 tariff for both gas and electricity. I went through my statements and found this was true in May but in November my electricity was moved to a variable tariff, how can this happen without my consent and without them even informing me of the change?
@Btimms because it was to your advantage to do so. The fix price was uncompetitive compared to the variable +EPG. The price change in January is minimal in net terms (the increase in the EPG discount offsets the supplier’s price increase) but another change in April may (only may not will) bring your fix back into play for a short while.

@meldrewreborn How can it be to my advantage when my original fixed tariff was 25p/KwH which then went up to 36.474p/KwH after the change and is now going up to 37.411p/KwH in January, which I agree is minimal but is still not "to my advantage" over my original fixed unit price

I'm looking at the various v9 tariffs and see unit rates (for my region Northern) for Fix 1 Year v9 DD (I assume that this is your specific tariff) at 26.32p/kWh and 5.43p/kWh for gas. So I'd be annoyed like the OP if I had been shoved onto the EPG from October 1st paying higher unit rates as a resullt.
I agree with the OP that they should have remained on their v9 fix as it was below the October EPG rates for both utilities.
A call to CS is in order to rectify their billing since October 1st, if the OP has been in receipt of statements showing an inflated unit price used in said billing.

thanks for the reply, now to try find a CS number that actually works lol
@Btimms
Clearly my response was wrong because of an assumption on my part.
in that case make a formal complaint. Customers should only have been moved onto the Variable/EPG rates if it was to the customers advantage. Things were very confused back in October when the EPG was brought in, which coincided with a substantial OFGEM authorised price cap increase.
I find it’s not simple to find details of the various fix price offers how is it possible @Mailman?
Strange one, but I am sure we will get to the bottom of it! Could it be that you changed your payment method? If you were paying via Direct Debit before but then you switched and changed to pay on receipt of bills the price change can certainly be noticeable? Just an option to think about!

Re the tariffs (historic) the sequence from account is: Energy and Tariffs menu > Our Tariffs > Scroll all the way to the bottom section where it states 'Want to See what energy tariffs we have?' > Check out our range of tariffs > Input postcode > Hit the Get tariffs button where you can select Previous tariffs or Current tariffs.
