    @Emrudd84

    you are confusing fixed and variable tariffs with fixed and variable direct debits.

    @Emrudd84

    @retrotecchiestill don't see the point of them moving me. The email they sent to me said they have switched me to the new tariff because my fixed was more expensive so they are reducing my prices

    Also direct debits can go up or down due to changes in consumption and, in normal times, changes in prices. Around last summer any fixed price deals were looking very expensive to most, and then in the event the EPG meant a lot of them were not competitive with the prices on the variable tariffs. Your Direct debit could be too high - if it is you will be building up credit on your account. Effective prices are due to go up another 20% in April 2023 (both the OFGEM approved prices and the EPG discount are changing, so you might need some credit on your account.

    The unit prices are cheaper per kWh for gas and electricity than they would have been on your fixed tariff. That's why they moved you, as they did with everyone that was on a more expensive tariff.

    Whether you pay by fixed direct debit, the same every month or whether they charge you a variable direct debit, i.e. Bill in full every month is a completely separate matter. I suggest you keep an eye on your bills over the next couple of months, and then adjust your direct debit if you are paying too little or too much.

    Don't shoot me, I'm only the piano player. I DON'T work for or on behalf of EON.Next, but am willing to try and help if I can. Not on mains gas, mobile network or mains drainage. House heated almost entirely by baby dragons.

    Perhaps if you post the prices you signed up to we can illustrate why you’re better off on the variable?

    I have shown my dad, who deals with this kind of industry, and have shown him all of my communications from eon next and my bill. He has now given me clarification on what I should/shouldn't do. Thank you to the other people who have been helpful with their advice

    Good evening all 😊.

    I can see why you are confused @Emrudd84 and it has been very hard to get to grips with the rates, payments and everything in between (me included!)
    What our fellow members are trying to explain and @meldrewreborn is trying to get across that the EPG rates/tariff change does not imply that your payment method will change also. Although you have been moved onto a new tariff which is more financially beneficial to you - if you are paying by a set direct debit, then you will continue to do so and we would never change a payment method😊.

    I think where you may be getting confused is that our Next Flex (which is in line with the Government EPG rates) is a variable tariff (this means variable unit rates) but this does not mean that the payments are variable (you pay different each time). If you believe you are paying too much or perhaps want to change your payment method then please contact one of our energy specialists 👉 Contact Us.
