A representative called a couple of weeks ago, he said to read the meter. I had an email from EonNext saying it was time to send in meter readings last week. When we checked our meter, we discovered the latch was broken. It was NOT broken the previous month when we read the meters. Two questions:
1. Can Eon send a replacement door/latch for the meter cover?
2. Why did you send someone to read the meter, then request we send in meter readings? On the history, it does not show that the meter-reader has entered his readings.
1. No, the meter cupboard or cubby or it's latch are the responsibility of the householder, not E.On. Those latches fail or break regularly over time...weather, wear and tear, corrosion, etc. I have no latch on my meter cubby. I just hooked a bungee round it.
2. Eon didn't send someone to read your meter. Meter reading is usually done by a third party such as Morisson Utility Services. Whether they update meter data in a timely manner, or what their schedules are as they read every companies meters, not just Eon, has no bearing on Eon's request for a meter reading.
Least likely scenario, but possible. Someone up to no good tampering with your meter....did they provide ID or have an official badge or anything?
Don't shoot me, I'm only the piano player. I DON'T work for or on behalf of EON.Next, but am willing to try and help if I can. Not on mains gas, mobile network or mains drainage. House heated almost entirely by baby dragons.

The latch on my outside electric meter cover was terrible for many years due to previous owners using pliers instead of a key to open it. The triangular spigot was almost round.
One day, and I think it was when I had the smart meters fitted, the guy said that he’d fitted a new latch whilst he was at it. So, if you ever have an engineer to your meters for any reason, ask if they have a new latch in their van.
Hey, yet another good reason to have smart meters fitted 👍
I'm an Eon Next dual fuel customer with no particular expertise but have some time on my hands that I am using to try and help out a bit.
if smart meters were as advertised they wouldn’t need to be outside for the meter reader to read them! 😂😂
Current Eon Next customer, ex EDF, Zog and Symbio. Don't think dual fuel saves money and don't like smart meters. Chronologically Gifted. If I offend let me know by private message, but I’ll continue to express my opinions nonetheless.

Great advice Thank you. Same as yours, the triangular spigot on my gas meter door latch is almost round, caused by various meter readers and service engineers using pliers instead of a key. I'm waiting for my version1 smart gas meter to be replaced, so I'll ask about a new latch. I'll also try asking the service engineer when he does the service and safety check next month. That will probably be quicker than waiting for the new meter to be installed. 😃
