As @retrotecchie has mentioned a variable direct debit means the date and amount is variable. We will usually bill you once we receive a reading on your account (if we don't receive a reading by the end of your billing period we will estimate) your actual bill (you can download this as PDF from your online account) should tell you when any payments will be taken π
If you are unsure how to access your bill just give us a shout!

The variable direct debit is only taken after a bill is generated so will always be taken after your readings. Ignore the date online. Variable d d always says 1st of month. Your actual bill will have the correct date.

Don't shoot me, I'm only the piano player. I DON'T work for or on behalf of EON.Next, but am willing to try and help if I can. Not on mains gas, mobile network or mains drainage. House heated almost entirely by baby dragons.

Thank you so much for your very quick reply and putting my mind at rest.

Great advice from @retrotecchi and @DebF_EONNext. I pay by monthly variable Direct Debit, and it's exactly as they say. The bills are generated when the readings are received. If an occasional smart reading doesn't go through for some reason, you can always submit an online manual reading which will generate a bill. ππ
Really pleased to have joined this fantastic forum and it will be the first place I will come to in the future if I have any more queries.
You're very welcome. The forum is great for both advice and light-hearted banter with both Eon Next staff and other members (including @retotecchie, @Meldrew reborn, @Mailman @Plantagenet and @JoeSoap). I find it really helpful and fun, so keep checking in.ππ π

@Tommysgirl that's also a fantastic point you can submit a manual meter reading online at any time π @mandh we would love for you to stick around there is so much support on here it really is a great space!
I have smart meters. My monthly readings are recorded on the 10th of each month.
I was paying a fixed Direct Debit on 15th of the month but have changed to variable.
I have noticed the date of the Direct Debit has changed to 1st of the month.
I want to change it back to the 15th, so it is after my monthly readings.
I cannot find anywhere in my online account to change the date
Can you help?
Just ensure that your smart reader schedule is set for the date you wish and also realise that once the bill is generated it takes another 17 -19 days before the Direct Debit is actually taken. It is not taken immediately with a Variable Direct Debit setup (as I have).
So my smart meters were read on 1st December with DD due as a result of statement will be 19th December.
