Hi everyone
just completed my second hour. I think this is a great scheme as not only are you saving energy you get paid for doing it and its helping the grid.
Iv been cooking my tea early, switching everything off at the wall and just having 1 light on in the room im in. I leave my heating as it is.
Can I ask is it both gas and electric or just electric that is monitored for savings?
@Suziesue
Glad it’s working out for you. It’s actually only one ‘win’ though and that is the payment you get for reducing consumption during the peak hour in question. You’re not actually saving energy as such, you’re switching your usage to another (off peak) time slot which uses (and costs) the same regardless. You can reduce your consumption at any time at all by switching the lights and heating off to get the other ‘win’ which actually is saving energy and that will always result in a smaller bill than you would otherwise have had.
I'm an Eon Next dual fuel customer with no particular expertise but have some time on my hands that I am using to try and help out a bit.
@JoeSoap ah but iv no TV on during the hour like usual and I turn off the dehumidifier also so I am saving there.
It's good to help put a bit like you say 🙂

well you could switch the one light off and light a candle instead - that will give you some heat. Therefore unless essential you could consider lowering the temperature at the control point! it all reduces Kw usage and adds to potential credits - i am looking forward to the 4th energy shift tomorrow.
@Suziesue
Your enthusiasm is infectious. I’ve signed up for my first trial tomorrow. What I’m saying though is that you can pick the same hour tomorrow, or any hour on any day, and turn off the TV and dehumidifier to save money. That’s the other win… and you don’t need to be in on the energy shift to be a winner. We can all win at any time by switching off things. The one win in the energy shift is the bit of money they give you for switching off in the hour they tell you to and then using more than you normally would in a different hour.
I feel bad for saying anything now, so whatever way you look at it you’re saving money and helping balance the load on the grid. I’m not convinced I’ll manage to hit my target tomorrow but I’ll give it a go… if I remember 😂
Just make sure your Flo's not upstairs doing her hair again, while you're downstairs not boiling the kettle!😂😂
Don't shoot me, I'm only the piano player. I DON'T work for or on behalf of EON.Next, but am willing to try and help if I can. Not on mains gas, mobile network or mains drainage. House heated almost entirely by baby dragons.
Ah there you go! preparation is all important and the minutes leading up to 'the hour' never more so - boil the kettle - fill a flask (bought with the money from the credit) - don a woolly hat and coat - light a candle or two and reflect on 'how it was much worse in the 70's' (if you are senior enough).
@retrotecchie
If this works I’ll eat my hat. I didn’t sense much enthusiasm from other quarters (or thirds) when I signed up to it. FloSoap has a cuppa and watches telly between 5 and 6 when my slot is. Ok, the kettle will be boiled at 4.55 but the telly will be on for sure and no-one will be sitting in the dark like we did in the 70s… yep, senior enough @Cosmo59 😂
I have to reduce from 0.86 to 0.52kWh so it’s do-able, but…
