@JoeSoap
I don't have a smart meter but I am prepared to hit the big OFF switch on the house for 24 hours containing a "please reduce usage" hour and photograph the electricity meter before and after.
Is there a way to get the demand reduction payment for decreasing demand to nil for a while ?
@wizzo227
I actually don’t know if you get a bigger payment if you smash the target as opposed to just beating it. As you probably know though, without a smart meter you can consume zero in the time slot but you won’t get a penny in payment.
I'm an Eon Next dual fuel customer with no particular expertise but have some time on my hands that I am using to try and help out a bit.
Out of interest and joking apart, the reason I remain so enthusiastic about the Energy shift is purely because it pays!. There is a self imposed reduction in our electricity use for each allocated one hour slot. Thus far, I have received credits totalling £26.28 - not bad for 3 hours effort (I haven't got a clue how they calculate the payment but as long as its a credit I will continue to take part).
@JoeSoap
OK. I don't have an approved sort of smart meter so I cannot get money this year. What I could do is to post a chart from homemade by-the-second metering here (which is not tamperproof so not suitable for anything payments related) next time there is a "please turn stuff down" hour. Whom should I ask in order to be told when the next DSR event applicable to households in region South England-Oxfordshire-Steventon-DidcotB is going to be ?
@wizzo227
I haven’t the faintest idea, I’m afraid. What I do know is that the trial is by invitation only and they need at least a month’s worth of smart meter data to get a benchmark so they can set a target.
@Cosmo59
Wow. They said I could be awarded around £1.09 if I hit my target. Not worth the aggro of hounding a family who have little enthusiasm for it 😂
Yes I appreciate the differences and the family effort required - I wouldn't have bothered a second time for £1.09! but while it all seems worthwhile I will continue - I await the 4th round result from Thursday. I am working on the basis that £26 more or less equates to 5 days electricity for us! so not bad for 3 hours effort.
Seems to depend on how much you normally use in the time slot given, a family home at 5 to 6pm would use a lot, me by myself use a small amount as quite often I'm at work in the time slot, so I get offered around 40p. I'm considered a low user, my bills as a single person would say overwise. As a low energy user I only get offered a small amount, so in other words, as someone who is careful with my usage I basically get sod all. Others who use a massive amount carelessly can turn everything off for an hour and go to the shops and receive a massive payout. Seems about right.
