We still don’t know if you have smart meters and an In-Home Display. If you do, then on my IHD it shows kWh usage in smaller size characters at the bottom of the screen. You can also access menus to see what tariff rates are being used to calculate the costs you are seeing.
I'm an Eon Next dual fuel customer with no particular expertise but have some time on my hands that I am using to try and help out a bit.
I have a smart meter and an in home display it has a circle of useage to one side and the money on the left , I can see my tariff in my eon next app on my phone my day and night right are both 34.08p/kWh with a standing charge of 44.02 per day
Ok, so it sounds like you are on a standard Next Flex tariff. If you are seeing £2 of electric has been used by 6am then that equates to over 4kWh overnight. Assuming you are all in bed by midnight then that is a lot of usage. I have two fridges and two freezers running all night, some security lights and some stuff on standby and my overnight usage is about 1.5kWh.
It’s important to know what the consumption is in kWh as shown on your IHD though. The tariff rates on the IHD could well be wrong so the cost you are seeing will also be wrong. Can you get to the tariff rates on the IHD?
There is three of us that live in the house and we are all in bed by 10.30pm usually we have one american fridge freezer. do you know how o get the rates and kilowatt useage on the IHD?
My IHD shows the kWh at the bottom of the screen but I have to go into the menus to get the tariff rates. How long have the high costs been showing? If you look back at recent statements are you actually being billed these high amounts?
We have a volunteer smart meter and IHD expert on the forum. If you are able to post photos of your meters and IHD, or even just your IHD, then maybe @theunknowntech can help you to get the info from the IHD.
If this overnight usage is correct then we will have to follow through with what @retrotecchie was advising and isolate things like fridges to see what happens.
If you can download the Hildebrand Bright App to your phone it shows usage down to half-hourly readings with history going back over a year. It’s free and quite easy to install.
You’ve all been getting on well in all this, so I’ll just ask whether an electric immersion heater has been inadvertently left on or whether this fridge freezer is an energy guzzler. My own experience with my freezer, leading to its replacement, colours my assessment. Boiler temperature is another factor, is it a condensing boiler, and is it a combi?
Current Eon Next customer, ex EDF, Zog and Symbio. Don't think dual fuel saves money and don't like smart meters. Chronologically Gifted. If I offend let me know by private message, but I’ll continue to express my opinions nonetheless.
