not sure if this has been mentioned elsewhere in the forum but I cant find any mention of how to do this from the main Eon Site even with a link to a page that says how to switch to half hour readings, but below if how Ive just found out to change to it.
1. Login to your online account.
2. Scroll down and click on Profile
3. Scroll down to Smartmeter Data Preferences and click on Edit.
4. Choose Half-Hourly
Incredibly simple to do and cant believe it doesnt appear to be listed anywhere on EonNexts main site.
Ive found this as I wanted to take part in the nergy shift scheme but currently not able to since I was not setup for half-hourly readings which it should be by default IMHO.
A smart meter has to keep a 'log' of readings. One log is historic daily readings going back for 13 months, I think. The other log is a short term log (one month?) of half hour readings if that function is selected. I suspect that once the log is full, it just overwrites previous entries. Setting to half hour readings also causes the meter to transmit more data over the network. As the network is hard pressed at best, default of 30 minute readings is not such a good idea, in my book. This is why gas meters have much longer intervals...they are battery powered so should transmit as infrequently as possible.
Don't shoot me, I'm only the piano player. I DON'T work for or on behalf of EON.Next, but am willing to try and help if I can. Not on mains gas, mobile network or mains drainage. House heated almost entirely by baby dragons.
The reason for switching to half hour readings is so that you can be eligible for the energy shift scheme, had it been enabled by default I would have been eligible to join whenit started but I now have to seemingly wait for a months worth of hourly readings to be done before I can join the scheme.
Gas meters also only transmit data to the electricity meter in the property due to being battery operated, and then the electricity meter transmits both of the readings to the cloud via the mobile phone network.
When Smart Meters are installed, the electricity meter is defaulted to sending data either monthly/daily. We have to gain consent for the meter to send us the half-hourly data as Ofgem deem this to be invasive, should we set meters to send this info by default.
There's some info from the Information Commissioners Office which can be found in this document which goes into more details about this.

It would be nice if this was mentioned somewhere on the EonNext website with details of how to do the switch as Im currently missing on out savings using the Energy Shift scheme as Im not currently eligible due to my meter not sending half hourly readings, and I cant find any mention of this.
And while you are at it, have a quiet word on behalf of us more pedantic engineering-savvy types. Could you please ask them to use the correct 'kWh', instead of the incorrect 'kwh'...?!
