I know energy prices have increased but surely the amount im paying cannot be right, £20 is lasting around 3 days and im out the house 5 days a week from 8am - 7pm! Where do us on prepayment meters get proof that what were being charged is correct?
My consumption on a regular meter is about £5 a day for electric only. Do you have any outstanding debt on your meter, because if you do, an amount of each top up goes towards the debt. Even if I'm away for a week, my meter racks up the units. Fridges, freezers, your TV on standby, a broadband router, heating controls...they all got up to a couple of pounds a day.
Have you noticed this suddenly, or since the prices shot up at the beginning of October?
Do you have the internet portal or the app and do you provide meter readings?
Don't shoot me, I'm only the piano player. I DON'T work for or on behalf of EON.Next, but am willing to try and help if I can. Not on mains gas, mobile network or mains drainage. House heated almost entirely by baby dragons.
@retrotecchie
Hey! Thanks for the reply! I dont have any debt and I dont have either the app or do readings, im on a pre payment meter which i use a key to top up so im not given any statements or usage information at all, i could be paying my neighbours electricity for all i know! I’ve noticed this change since October, i just didnt think it would be this much of a rise. I have every plug turned off all day except the fridge. Maybe its just how it is then if you use around £5 a day. Its only going to get worse in April too! 😭
Price rises were monster, to be fair. Mine went up by over a quarter. Have you been sent your £66 vouchers from the Energy Bill Support Scheme?
I personally would register for the app and give readings once a month, even on a prepay meter. That will at least give you a regular statement of how much you are using and how much it is costing.
I suspect postal strikes are playing into delays at the moment. If you got the October one, then the system works. Please give it a few more days. Everyone else seems to be in a similar boat.
@Zoe123 I would definitely get them to check your meters. £20 lasts me two weeks on my electric meter and I work part-time which means I am in the house 4 days out of 7. I have been with them for 12 years and always got statements via the post for my usage, they now send them via email. They are also available via your online account, I have the old prepayment meters where you use a key for electric and card for my gas.
£20 over two weeks is very good indeed. £6.30 or so of that is your standing charges for a fortnight, leaving about a pound a day, or 3 units, of actual electricity use.
Very impressive. I'm all electric here and we're in the house 7/7 and the best I've ever got my usage down to is about 8kWh a day, or around £3. A typical day is around 10-11 and if we can afford food, we might have a dinner that costs us another couple of 'cooking' units a day. Mind you, I mostly live on coffee and toast so a goodly bit of my energy budget runs the kettle and the toaster 🍞😁
@Moomin17 Anasa here 👋 £20 over two weeks is amazing! Do you have any energy saving tips? I use around £4 a day! but I am mainly electricity with just gas central heating. I have a smart meter and keep tabs on my usage via the App and my IHD 🙂
