New Boiler Offer

I am getting fed up of Eon sending me emails offering to to save me £540 off my energy bill by buying a new efficient boiler from Eon, I have had 3 emails over 7 days.

You have the option in your app or on the website to opt out of marketing emails. That way, they'll stop badgering you. Failing that, I find the 'delete' option works reasonably well, once I've checked the message isn't relevant to me.Don't shoot me, I'm only the piano player. Is the error in how much could be saved? What would the annual bill have been if you would save £540 per annum. If it were true then the payback period might be as little as 8 years, but for most there is no payback.
And as the price of gas decreases the payback period just gets longer.Current Eon Next customer, ex EDF, Zog and Symbio. Don't think dual fuel saves money and don't like smart meters. @meldrewreborn I think looking back at the date when JimC posted it's very possible that could have been the saving as this is back when EBSS was in place due to the energy price being at a peak 🤔

Please could you do a worked example of how to get 540 pounds per year savings from replacing my existing very used combi gas boiler as an example?
Vaillant 242 E1/N installed in the year 2000, https://www.manualslib.com/products/...E-3649805.html
There must be mistakes in the tabulated specification table which made it impossible to test efficiency. I could only test gas consumption. Doing central heating ('CH'), gas is consumed at about 15kW, and doing hot water ('DHW') gas is consumed at about double that with visible plume of steam outdoors from flue exhaust and decreased efficiency while boosted up for hot water. Combi boilers all seem to do that. From measured gas consumption while doing my hot water of about 30 kW, the spec sheet implies implausibly high efficiency in its less efficient mode of operation, so the spec sheet is somewhat distrusted.
Since the spec sheet of the 242E1N was not useful when looking at efficiency, I have no reason to trust the spec sheet of a newer boiler from any of the reputable combi gas boiler manufacturers. The only way to get this sorted out would need a facility who can meter inputs and outputs of boilers, and be honest about reporting test results. I'd want to ask The Energy House, Salford to advise, possibly setting up a test rig to do this properly. -

Steam is invisible. What you see in the 'plume' is water vapour at significantly less than 100°C. The latent heat of steam has already imparted the energy in condensing back into the water
being heated, which is why a condensing boiler is more efficient than a non condensing one.
Unless you replace a non modulating combi boiler with a modulating combi boiler, you won't gain much saving. You will save a significant amount of energy if you replace a non combi with a combi. If you want to save money, you would be far better off replacing any gas boiler with an oil boiler. You will save 20-30% a year. Oil is 60% of the cost of gas and no standing charges. Using HHO instead of fossil kero, your CO2 emissions would be around 70% less than heating with gas and still halve your bills.
