@retrotecchie Thank you for your reply, however I'm totally baffled. On the eon app it clearly states that the Government help of £67 will be deducted from our DD, like it was September into October.

Eon changed the DD total, reducing my monthly DD from £126 to £59.

Then, within a week asked me to increase my DD which I did

This is the total that left my account today having been told by eon over the phone it should be £115 minus the Government help to leave my account.

Having given a reading recently, they recommended I increase my DD again, 2 recommend increases in 1 month

My monthly bill dual is approximately £60 and also over £400 in credit.

I was always under the assumption that our DD set as alongside the recommendation made would be reduced until April by £67.

So the government help will now be placed onto my energy account and not returned to my bank account?

That's how it seems to be looking, but if your energy bills are around £60 a month, which is very low, and they still want a bigger DD and your account is in that much credit, I'd be very inclined to change your billing to DD IN FULL every month rather than fixed DD. That way, monthly payments will be made from your credit, rather than taking anything from your bank account.

Same for me. What a mess for what was alleged to be straightforward not the opposite. No wonder no one is responding. Based on comments here I’ve moved my DD payment date a week later than the 1st of each month.

I think that's a sensible move. My payment now goes out on the 14th. Not that it gets taken very often. If I have some spare cash, I make an extra manual payment if I have a debit on my account.

If paying by Direct Debit, British Gas pay the £66/67 into the customers bank account after they have taken their full DD. It doesn't go anywhere near their electricity account.

I suspect different companies do it differently. Taking £166 out of the bank and putting £66 credit back in has exactly the same net effect as crediting the energy account with £66 and only taking £100 in payment.

I definitely think there is a problem here and eon are either ignoring it or don't understand the issue.

My direct debit was correctly reduced last month but not this month so this can't be an issue with timing.

Maybe if people start contacting their bank in large enough numbers under the direct debit guarantee someone might wake up and sort this.

My direct debit was not reduced. My energy account was just credited with £66. This month, that sum was deducted from my bill total, and they took the DD for the balance. It could not possibly be simpler or any easier to understand, for me. This month's £66 will go towards my next bill, and so on until April.

Faffing about with the DD seems to be overly complicated and completely pointless, but for those on fixed DD your perceptions and mileage may vary.

Last week I would have agreed with you, but no longer. Yesterday morning I put my first of the month meter reading in my account online as usual. A few hours later EONext put in a different meter reading, supposedly taken by a meter reader the previous day. And then they decided to raise a bill on that ficticious amount. That bill was eyewatering. After a mere 75 minute hanging on the phone I managed to get them to cancel the bill and raise the correct one instead.

Thank heavens they weren't able to whip it from my bank before I noticed.
