Dear E-On Next why are you so incredibly useless?

    @meldrewreborn

So that clears things up a little. Other than the statements over the last month that fixed rates would be brought down to the same level as the Flex rates. So anyone who is currently fixed will only be having the 17p reduction, but not brought down to the EPG floor rates as promised and will be paying more than Flex customers.

My bill does state "You could save £187.84 a year by switching to our Next Flex, a variable tariff." - although without knowing what Hunt will do, that may not be true post April.

This is from a thread a week ago where @PeterT_EONNext confirmed that for people on a fixed tariff, not only would the 17p reduction be applied but it would then be reduced to the regional cap rate - Electricity at 32.24 p/kWh for Northern region. This has NOT happened. Will we refunded the difference or have they just lied to us / changed their mind? PLEASE could someone from Eon Next just explain what we should be paying so that we can check????

"Can you just confirm that the adjusted rates after the full 17p/kWh reduction for electricity will be reduced to whatever your regional cap rate is rather than the average cap rate (34.04p/kWh). So for example with me being in Northern region should expect to see my Online (and billed) v18 unit rate fall from its current 34.01 to 32.24p/kWh and for someone in Yorkshire region the rate would fall to 33.03p/kWh, but London would only go to 35.80p/kWh?"

    "Hey @Mailman

Yes, this is absolutely how it should work. So that I can test this, would you be okay for me to pull a reading from your electricity smart meter and bill you to this (I'll remove this afterwards and won't actually send you a bill, but wanted to ask first as you will see a meter read appear on your account)"

I am now starting to believe that Eon Next will only apply a maximum EPG 17p reduction (to our electricity rates) as the staff frequenting this forum have gone mute on the issue of whether further reductions to the EPG will take place whilst retaining us on the fixed tariff v18, V19 etc.

Either that or customers are being moved to Next Flex automatically. The latter move makes ££££ sense for the next 6 months but not necessarily for the period after that. My decision to remain on V18 is likely to be an easy one as my 17p reduction takes my rate to within a couple of pence of where the Next Flex tariff is (34.01p/kWh on V18 compared to 32.24p/kWh on Next Flex). Those on V19 V20 etc have a more problematic decision they need to take in that they will have to decide for themselves. Nobody knows what will happen post-April 2023 - I don't. the PM/ chancellor won't know and Eon Next certainly won't know. All we have are very very vague semi-apocolyptic predictions.

If you think that the unit rates next April are going to be higher than your current (unadjusted) fix then staying on your fix might be better although you need to do some nifty spreadsheet calculations in order to work out the cost from April 2023 to whenever your fix runs out.

We do need to know exactly what Eon Next are doing with fixed tariffs. Update urgently needed now that Eon know the length of the EPG....then we can all move on.

The problem is that the EPG isn't going to last as long as originally thought, so because of the government action (or inaction - depends on your point of view) its not so easy to determine the way forward. Of course it would be great if E.On Next reduced their prices down to the EPG floor, but if customers then want their fix rate back from April when E.On Next will not be recompensed the EPG unit rate reductions, what is the incentive for them to do that?

    Hey everyone!

I'm sorry for the lack of updates on this - we finally have some news on this now which I'm sure will put your minds at ease. I'll be updating the threads here and here shortly so that everyone will know the new information which will explain what is happening with your account/tariff.

I know there's still some uncertainty due to the Energy Price Guarantee being shortened from 2 years to 6 months, and we have a plan in place for those of you who are on fixed tariffs which I'll go into more detail about on the threads linked above, in Service Updates shortly.

We're still of course, unsure what will happen to prices come April (🤞 Rishi and Hunt will work something out nearer the time to help us all 😬)

Just for clarity this is the update from Peter - everyone on fixed tariffs that are being charged higher than the Flex tariff will automatically be moved to the Flex tariff - they will NOT be lowering the prices on the fixed tariffs as previously promised.....

    Hi Everyone!

Update 27 Oct 2022: This is an update to let those of you know, who are currently on Fixed tariffs, what will be happening with your prices.

Fixed tariff that is currently set below the EPG rate for your area: If you're currently on a fixed tariff (this will be few of you) that is set below what the EPG rates are as of 1st Oct, you'll remain on this tariff for the duration of the tariff term, then roll onto the standard variable tariff once this comes to an end.

Fixed tariff which is priced above the EPG rates for your area: If you're on a fixed tariff which is priced higher than the EPG rates, the adjustment to unit rates across these tariffs means that we've been unable to alter them down low enough so that you're only paying the capped rates laid out for 1st Oct 2022 - 30th March 2023. Due to this,
everyone on these tariffs will now be moved to the Standard Variable Tariff, the Next Flex, so that you'll benefit from the EPG unit rates until 30th March 2023. If this hasn't happened for you yet, you should receive information about this shortly via an email or letter, and any charges will be backdated to 1st October so that you don't miss out.

If you're moved off of your fixed tariff to the Next Flex tariff, you won't pay higher than your original fixed priced contract regardless of what happens in April.

This means if we've had to move you to the Next Flex tariff so that you're paying the government EPG rates and your fixed tariff was due to run, as an example, until 17th June 2023, then you won't pay anything higher than what was agreed on the fixed tariff you had taken out, which we had to move you from, until after 17th June 2023 (please bear in mind, the dates here are an example)

Once we have clarity from the government on what will happen to energy prices from 1st April onwards, we'll be in touch with all of our customers to let you know what will happen next.
