GCI is a legitimate UK telecoms business, as far as I can tell, but spammers often spoof legitimate business numbers.

Hi,
Thanks for the reply.
I did do a number lookup and it did look concerning.
Eonext has replied to me via twitter. It is a legitimate eonext outsourced CS from Cape Town.
I'd usually just hang up but they caught me unawares tbh

In which case, ignore the info above!
I usually avoid doing business with any organisation that outsources anything overseas, but I didn't have a choice here as my previous supplier went belly up.
You need to be careful as it's common for numbers to be spoofed ie they can replicate an incoming number to make it look genuine. Just because it's the same number it doesn't mean it's from the correct source.
If they think you're too much in debit surely they'd just recalculate your payments and add it onto your next bill, there's no need to call you.
Exactly....and the scammers know which numbers to spoof.
I had some attempted credit card fraud happen to me a few years ago and the 'alleged' credit card company called me from the same number as on the back of my card. I'm always wary, so I told them to give me a name and I would call them back. They hung up and moved on to their next potential victim.

I agree with you. I don't think I've ever given out name and address before, with an unsolicited incoming call. I was half asleep and called back on that number and it said it was Eonext and I was in a queue.
It's a genuine number, which I've now blocked!
They also called a few days ago but I said I was busy.
They should contact customers through email or letter really if they wanted to increase the DD.
It turned out to be genuinely Eonext. I gave feedback about it beiing a suspicious modality of contacting customers to Twitter DM, he agreed and said he'd pass the feedback on.

That's pretty disturbing. I feel so sorry for older folk with cognitive difficulties.
I've not had a South African accent from a call centre yet, but I get an awful lot of scam calls regarding my internet or my computer claiming to be from 'Windows' (not even Microsoft) that tend to be Indians.
I take great delight in leading them on, keeping them paying for the call and accepting their offer of assistance with my 'virus' or hack attempt. They start getting very het up when they tell me to press a particular key combination and I tell them I don't have those keys on my keyboard.
After twenty minutes of frustration on their part, they usually get fed up and then hang up the call. Poor sods have no clue they have been trying to hack into a 1982 Commodore VIC20...
