I understand that this scheme will start in November. Eon took part in a pilot scheme but will they be taking part in the scheme proper? It seems like a no brainer to help peak electricity use be reduced and hence the chance of black outs reduced this winter but the proof of the pudding will be how the detail of the scheme works and whether all suppliers whose customers have smart meters participate. If only a few suppliers participate, this would be hugely disappointing but perhaps not surprising as I don't think many really care about their customers financial well-being.
I would certainly try to reduce my peak time use if rewarded adequately for my efforts. No doubt many more would too if it is made worthwhile.
This has been asked a few times but no official answer given as far as I'm aware. Still only Octopus and Ovo have indicated they may take part to my knowledge.
I'm an Eon Next dual fuel customer with no particular expertise but have some time on my hands that I am using to try and help out a bit.
I would love to take part in the scheme if it goes ahead. Unfortunately I can't as my meters have been in dumb mode since moving from Octopus to Eon over a year ago.
I've asked E.on a few times as to when they would become smart again but haven't had any answers yet that made any sense.
DCC :-
The majority of the dormant meters we can upgrade have been migrated to the network. If your meter has not been upgraded unfortunately we're unable to provide you with an exact date as to when this will happen. That's because we need to work together with the energy companies to migrate the remaining meters, as we can't do it on our own. The programme is due to be completed by the end of 2022. If there is a problem with migrating your meters, your energy supplier will arrange for second generation (SMETS2) meters to be installed.
Not looking very likely that my meter is going to be migrated. So E.on next. Will my meters be upgraded to SMETS2 before the end of the year?
I have seen that OVO and Octopus have 100% signed up - but if I am entirely honest I am not 100% if E.ON Next have also followed to make the decison. I will of course keep my eye out and update you all once we have some confirmation on things 😁
