Hi, the battery in the gas meter outside my house has died and we can no longer get a gas reading. How do I go about getting this replaced? I’ve tried calling and been on hold 2 hours at a time. No response to email, twitter or WhatsApp!
@Kaoslisa
its a meter swap you need. Calling on the dot of opening time could be fruitful.

Mind you, I do have some good news. That gas meter is SMETS1, so replacing it will also result in both the gas and electric meter being upgraded to SMETS2 - and you get to escape the proprietary junk that British Gas installed! So that can only be a good thing. :P
Thanks for taking the time to post. I am sorry that you haven't had a reply yet as you can imagine across the whole of the industry at the moment (not just within E.ON Next) we are facing a much busier than normal period due to the current climate. Our energy specialists are working really hard to get back to customers as quickly as possible however we do have some delays. We are aware this isn't ideal however they are working as quickly as possible to get through the backlog and if you have emailed someone will get back to you.
I know this probably sounds a bit silly & you've most likely already tried 🙈 however have you double checked the meter hasn't just gone into a sleep mode? To check this just hold any of the buttons down for up to 30 seconds and if it is in sleep mode it will bring it back to life!
