Today when I got into my account, it said that I needed to renew my tariff. I clicked and discovered that the new Flex pricing is almost £5,000 per year. I was shocked.
For the past year, I had Fix Again 1 Year v11, which costs me about £2,000 a year.
What should I do now? I have emailed E.on Next but would appreciate hearing from other users.
If you put your postcode in here it will tell you tariffs available to you. You can multiply the tariff rates by your estimated annual consumption and add the daily standing charges to get an idea of your costs over the next year.
Energy costs have risen to high levels and the only real way to keep costs down is by using less energy.
I'm an Eon Next dual fuel customer with no particular expertise but have some time on my hands that I am using to try and help out a bit.

@JoeSoap is a kinder person than myself, but here's my view. You're shocked? So you don't pay any attention to the news either in print, paper, or online for the past year? You've done OK for 12 months but in the event there was little you could have done in the last 3 months to get yourself a better deal than the flex tariff.
The variable pricing via the flex tariff is the best available at present and no supplier can offer you a significantly better deal. The unit prices are essentially fixed for 2 years although standing charges can change -probably on a quarterly basis as set by OFGEM.
As Joe says if you want to cut your bill then you need to cut your consumption - that's what you need to do now. Contacting E.On next is pointless and unnecessary as they will put you on the flex tariff automatically when your fix runs out.. The so-called average bill is said to be £2,500 now so your consumption is circa double the average -scope for economising there perhaps?

You may be surprised to learn that I have managed to call other energy suppliers. At least two of them are able to give me better tariffs, no contract.
So I will switch to another provider and would advise people to call other companies to get other quotes. If you don't ask, you don't know.
I’m not entirely sure but I think suppliers can jiffle a bit with rates and standing charges in order to achieve the EPG target for average users. Depending on one’s actual usage there’s probably a small amount to be shaved off if you shop around.
Well done if you’ve saved a bit for the sake of a couple of phone calls.

the EPG is a discount from the OFGEM rates. Suppliers can vary their rates if they wish by lowering the standing charge below the capped limit and perhaps increasing the unit prices a bit, or just charging a bit less, the OFGEM figures are maximum charges for two levels of consumption, not set levels of prices.
My prices are fixed and a little below the EPG so there is no incentive for me to attempt a switch. But you can imagine another complication arising over the monthly discount already. @fantasy20 as a big user any marginal price gains will be good for you, but cutting consumption will reduce your bills even more. Who are the cheaper suppliers - we give advice impartially- we’re not E.on Next bots.
Thanks for the explanation, it’s kind of what I had imagined. The strange thing is, a big user could switch supplier on the basis of their consumption over the previous year, and then for further economy make cuts to their consumption, which might then mean they would have been better staying put with their original supplier.
