I thought my monthly direct debit would stay the same for my electric bill but it had been reduced because the £67 has been credited to my account. I thought the whole idea of giving people the extra money was to help pay their bill? I’m sure on the EON Next app it said that direct debits would not be changing.
Your DD has been reduced by £67 but the government will pay that same amount to your account. The result is that you have saved £67 and your account will receive the same as it would have done originally. Therefore, the government have helped to pay your bill.
I'm an Eon Next dual fuel customer with no particular expertise but have some time on my hands that I am using to try and help out a bit.
@JoeSoap
I understand that, but I was expecting the DD to stay the same so that I’ll be in credit when my fixed rate plan comes to an end in the new year. I’ll have to remember to save the rest of my DD payment each month.
Your DD is set so that your payments are equalised over the year. If there was no government help then you would have just continued to pay your normal amount. That same normal amount is being credited to your account just the same. The only difference is that you personally are not paying as much.
If you think that the total amount being credited to your account every month is not enough to cover your usage over the next year then you can contact customer service to get your DD increased. Before you do this though, I would advise that you look at your estimated annual usage and calculate what the cost will be over the next year. If you then divide that by 12 you will get the monthly payment. But don't forget, that monthly payment will still be reduced by £66/67 over the next 6 months.
