Hi wondering if anyone has had this problem. My electric meter is a pre payment. It’s far too high on the wall for me to reach, I have to get someone in every time I need to top up. I suffer with arthritis and obesity so not able to do it myself. I am in private rented accommodation so not sure who I need to contact about this problem. Can anyone please advise.

Are you on the priority services register - arrange this if you're not.

I think that moving a meter (which is what you need) is normally chargeable. Would a smart meter help - particularly a credit smart meter - which in theory you would never need to reach again?

But if you are on the priority services register it could perhaps be justified as a free change/move. You would also need to speak to your landlord - they would not be able to object if your request is reasonable.

Moving a meter is definitely discounted if you're on PSR and would almost always be a 100% discount wherever possible. But I also agree that it may be worth getting switched to pay monthly rather than pay as you go.

Should also add paying by DD on a credit meter is cheaper than a prepayment meter so it's something to press for.
