Is there an answer to @meldrewreborn’s question posted just after @Mailman’s. Those of us who fixed in the couple of months before 1st October were advised not to switch to the variable when the EPG was announced (thereby saving money immediately) and to wait until the changes came into effect.
One email response to a forum member advised that the back-date would go all the way back to the start of the contract.
Can you advise on this please?
I'm an Eon Next dual fuel customer with no particular expertise but have some time on my hands that I am using to try and help out a bit.
I'm not fixed and pay on receipt of bill, non dd payer. When will the government money be credited to my account. There is nothing published for pay receipt apart from the extortionate standard charge for this.
It will be soon. But please read the following through and consider whether not paying by DD is helping you.
In its announcement of the revised price cap in August2022, OFGEM stated that average customers not paying by Direct Debit, faced additional charges of £215 per annum because of the extra costs to suppliers in dealing with such customers. Previously, I had thought (without any detailed analysis) that the EPG reduction would have brought the excess figure down to perhaps £150 per annum. But now that I’ve looked in detail, I’ve realised that the EPG reductions affect both Direct Debit tariffs and “other payment methods” tariffs equally in price terms, so that the differential between the total costs of both methods will remain the same - £215. The average Direct Debit bill is, after the EPG is factored in now £2500, and £125 is equal to an overall price increase of 8.6%. Electricity Standing charges are 12-16% higher (its regional) and Gas standing charges are 17.72% higher (nationally) if you’re not on Direct Debit. Unit prices are around 7.5% to 8.25% higher. This means that if you use smaller amounts of energy than the average customer, the cost of not paying by DD will be greater than 8.6%, possibly a lot higher.

@meldrewreborn I understand the system that pay on receipt os more expensive than dd. But when eon insist that I set up a dd for 283 a month its extortionate. The recent months I have only been paying less than 50 a month which is 200 quid cheaper than the dd. I understand my usage is going to go up now its cold but I find paying on receipt easier to manage. I like tk be kn control of my money not have my money controlled by others

Summer months are of course cheaper than winter months. But providing the forecast consumption is correct the DD shouldn't be extortionate -its only evening the total of your forecast bills over 12 months. A fixed DD has to be set at a reasonable level. If you work out for yourself what it should be, then you can argue the matter with Customer Services rather than accept or decline their computation. The saving is worthwhile, as I've explained.
Prices this time are up 25% on the previous month but will now stay fixed for 24 months so that's one issue (price changes) taken out of the debate.
When will the customers on variable rate who pay on receipt of their bill get the governments £66 credited to their accounts? Seem most DD customers have had theirs.
