While I tend to agree, can you not read the actual meter (not the in-home display), and send a reading in? On the other hand, if you don't get bills for a very long time, they can only back bill you 12 months when they do get round to it.
Also, I don't have any smart meters - but I still know what I'm consuming, and from that what I'm spending. It's not rocket science.

Meter readings sent every 2 weeks i want a bill so that i can pay it. not leave them to build up especially since there have been 3 increases this year thats what the smart meters are supposed to do and thats not rocket science either

sorry the whole smart metering communication system is highly complex because of the security that surrounds it. And variable rates have gone up twice this Year , April and now October, not 3 times.
E.On next are supposed to bill monthly - what excuses have they given you?
Hi, @Nigelb sometimes smart meters and communication can be temperamental. I believe that the meter in itself is working but most likely is not communicating with us. The IHD can be reconnect it remotely as well as the smart meters. Once that process is done, we will be able to pull readings for the periods of times that are missing and able to bill you correctly to the actual usage. The smart meters are probably recording data, but simply not transmitting it to us.
