I like a healthy credit balance at this time of the year too. Always a slight worry that whichever energy company the credit is with goes bust though, even though we’re always told we’ll be ok.
I'm an Eon Next dual fuel customer with no particular expertise but have some time on my hands that I am using to try and help out a bit.
Well unearthed, Andy. It seems EONext had the choice of two methods of refund ..... and chose the most complicated one with the most opportunities for getting it wrong. And they can get it wrong again next March when they have to reverse out of the situation.
My understanding of that @GSimpson is that if your DD is greater than £67 then your DD is reduced by £67 and they credit £67 to your energy account. If your DD is less than £67, your DD becomes zero and the difference between your DD and £67 credited back to your bank account, the equivalent value of your DD is credited to your energy account.
It is not two methods, it's one. It just depends on the level of your DD.

I'm no expert but I'm not sure it is quite the same. The way OVO (and others) are doing it is to take the full (increased) direct debit from your bank account and then sending a refund of £66/67 back to your bank account.
The way E.ON Next seem to be approaching it is by reducing the direct debit that's taken from your bank account by £66/67 (so you pay out less) and crediting the £66/67 directly to your energy account. Personally I can see the benefit in doing it this way - people have to find less money to make the bill payment in the first place. Even if it does all work out the same in the end.
What isn't quite clear to me is what E.ON Next will do if the bill / direct debit is less than £66/67 - will the remainder be credited to bank account or energy account? Haven't seen anything definitive on that yet myself.

I think that's wrong and the remaining credit should go to the Customers bank account, not energy account, otherwise you'd say the whole £67 is applied to your energy account.
It sounds like OVO is achieving the same result, they're just doing it a slightly different way. Whether it's eon-next or OVO, the customer has an extra £66/67 in their bank account for the next 6 months with their normally monthly payment ending up in their energy account.
My normal monthly payment is less than £67 so my DD has not been paid today. When the equivalent amount from the Government is credited to my energy account I'm expecting the difference to be credited to my bank account.
They're both following the same rules, the slightly different method is likely down to their systems and what they think is the easiest way for them to do it.

When you say you think that’s wrong, do you mean you think the quote is wrong, my interpretation is wrong or that you think it’s wrong that the credit will be applied to your energy account (ie disagree with the way it’s going to be done)?
