I had an excellent deal with Zog energy for gas at under 3p per unit through to April 2023. But when their wholesale supplier went bust so did they. Then had to go through the SOLR process and getting a good fix then wasn't quite so easy. I fixed Electricity in April and gas (2 years) in June. For a full year my fixes would have cost £3,300, the EPG capped rates £3,020, and my fixes amended by the EPG £2,840. So, i am rewarded a bit for my risk taking, but can't help feeling I've missed out a bit.

You have done extremely well for the past year, but now face the impact of a years worth of rising prices. I don't use much gas in the summer months so didn't mind high summer prices as they didn't translate into high bills, the winter though is an entirely different matter.

Current Eon Next customer, ex EDF, Zog and Symbio. Don't think dual fuel saves money and don't like smart meters. Chronologically Gifted. If I offend let me know by private message, but I’ll continue to express my opinions nonetheless.

As things stand I am a loser.

I fixed in August at a rate higher than the EPG rates announced in September. Upon that announcement I considered switching to Next Flex but followed the advice in the above screenshots... especially that of Eon Next in the last screenshot.

We have now had a reply to the question of will we be compensated for following advice and that answer is here where it says...

''We want to make sure that customers are paying no more than they need to for their energy. So we switched customers who were on a fixed tariff, that was more expensive than the Energy Price Guarantee (EPG), to our lower variable Next Flex tariff. This means that prices are now at the same level as the government’s EPG, which limits the amount that can be charged per unit of electricity and gas on a variable tariff. Reducing the prices for those fixed customers was our decision and not a government requirement. We thought it was only fair that customers on a fixed tariff should get the same benefit as customers on a variable tariff.

For fairness the EPG benefit was applied to all customers from 1 October 2022. E.ON Next are one of only a few suppliers that took the decision to automatically move fixed customers to a lower price without them having to contact us as we thought it was in the best interests of the customer to reduce the prices they pay.''

@Beki_EONNext gallantly tried to defend the position but did not acknowledge the key issue...

Why were customers who tried to switch to Next Flex in September in order to reduce their tariff rates advised to ''stick to the tariff you're on'' and ''there is no need to switch back to the Standard Variable''?

I don't know who posted the reply from Eon Next or where the post is but I hope they kept copies of the correspondence to help with their claim should they wish to make one.

I will wait a bit to see if the official line from Eon Next changes. If not then I guess I will have to begin the long process of emails.

I'm an Eon Next dual fuel customer with no particular expertise but have some time on my hands that I am using to try and help out a bit.

I suggest that you put your complaint in immediately. Compute your extra costs due to the price variance and make that part of your complaint.

They have 8 weeks to resolve that. I imagine that there will be a number of customers who were on high fixes who are out of pocket, but whether that turns into a torrent of complaints is a different matter. I can well imagine E.On Next trying to tough this out, but losing at the ombudsman. The attitude of Martin Lewis & Co will be important.

Thanks, but I thought I needed an email trail first showing they had a chance of resolution before I complained.

I can't compute my losses as I don't know what the Next Flex rates for my region were at the time. They have all the info of my consumption between 9 - 30 Sep and the applicable tariff rates so I will just go with that for now so the complaint is at least open.

Just when I've got real life stuff to deal with. Who would have thought I've got a life outside this forum, eh? 😂

What region? deepest Essex was it? I can offer you the rates from April 2022.
