The final graph shows that over the past year 94% of new SMETS2 meters were connected within 15 minutes. Why then do customers wait for up to 8 weeks for them to actually work?

There's a lot of testing, security updates, firmware updates, encryption key generation, config downloads and other commissioning steps involved in the entire process. The basic connection to DCC can be up and running pretty quickly, but DCC will not usually authorise suppliers to connect until they're happy the equipment is functioning properly, is secure and is on the correct firmware.

Your question @meldrewreborn has sent my tiny mind into a bit of a fizz, as it seems everything going in or out of Westwood Business Park seems to take ages or doesn't happen at all. Smart Meters up to 8 weeks, payments don't appear for 5-6 days, tariff updates don't want to leave the building of their own accord, communications - well perhaps the least said the better etc.
So my first thought was maybe some sort of force field around the building but then I realised that was just silly, so now my thinking is that there's been a massive treacle spillage and they're all struggling to move through the gloop. Why there hasn't been a remake of The Blob I'll never know.
