Thank you but it is so confusing as I thought I was entitled as had been previously and am in Core Group 2 which is supposed to receive it automatically but I received nothing Last Winter despite several phone calls to DWP and Eon Next. One person from Eon Next who works on the WHD assured me I was entitled and that I would receive it. Needless to say I didn't get it credited to my account. Luckily though the Government were putting credits on everyone's accounts last Winter, but there is none this Winter.
Why did I not receive it? Will I receive it this Winter?

It's only 'automatic' in England and Wales. If you are in Scotland, you need to physically apply.

And is the bill in the same name as the appropriate benefit recipient? If not, that doesn't help as the benefit/entitlement is matched by name, not just by property address.

Don't shoot me, I'm only the piano player. I DON'T work for or on behalf of EON.Next, but am willing to try and help if I can. Not on mains gas, mobile network or mains drainage. House heated almost entirely by baby dragons.

@retrotecchie I am in England and the bill is in the name of the person receiving the qualifying benefit.
The issue is that last year the Government changed the method so that extra parts were put in but we do not see that mentioned in the information given here. I believe it is because I do not have an Energy Performance Certificate on my home.

No they have assessed all properties by reference to others in the locality. The scheme criteria are as per last year and are set to apply into the next several years. The changes last year were very substantial, overall widening the numbers covered, but at the same time removing the disability eligibility criteria.

they also removed the annual application process and selected those supposedly eligible by data available to them - by them I mean the DWP. They then tell the suppliers who to give it to. By making the process automatic they covered a lot of households who missed out because they didn’t apply under the previous scheme. But the data they’re using may not be totally accurate , hence the appeal process from January. We covered a lot on this last year, and the set up is the same now.

if you are able to search online, use the phrase “warm home discount gov.uk” and you’ll be able to see the full criteria.

the assessment of properties is done by data from the Valuation Office Agency, and apparently takes into account property age, size and construction in deciding whether it’s high cost or not.

Hey @TerryMc You are very welcome. As far as I know you should have received that automatically being in the core group but I think it was done differently last year. I would follow this up with one of our Energy Specialist to see what's gone on if you were promised it. They will be able to deep dive into your account. It would be great if you could pop back on and let us know how you got on with this.

All the info about this years is on the link above if you'd like to double check as far as I know if you're in the Core group 2 you'll be eligible this year, there is a list of qualifying benefits Warm Home Discount 23/24 - it is a bit different if you're in Scotland and there is more on that on the link 😊

Please could you give me an email to contact one of the Energy Specialists as I do not know how to get in touch. There are no contact details on the website when logging in to my account. Thank you.

I'm an Eon Next dual fuel customer with no particular expertise but have some time on my hands that I am using to try and help out a bit.

    @TerryMc

This applies in England and wales so covers you. You only automatically qualify for the payment if:

you get the Guarantee Credit element of Pension Credit

You AUTOMATICALLY qualify for the discount ONLY if on 13 August 2023 all of the following applied:

If you are in core group 2, in that you do not get the Guarantee Credit element of Pension Credit, there are the other hoops to jump through to get the payment.- so you may be eligible you may not.

Since the eligibility criteria are administered by the Department of work and Pensions, energy specialists (everybody who works in customer services !!) can't tell you if you qualify or not.

If you do get The Guaranteed element of Pension credit and you do not get a letter confirming that you will get the discount then

Contact the Warm Home Discount Scheme (if you do not get the letter by early January 2024) and you think you’re eligible.
You must contact them before 29 February 2024.

So simple question, do you qualify for the Guaranteed element of pension credit or not? If not you may be in core group 2 - payment of the discount is NOT guaranteed to all those in that group but subject to further tests. I'll post about that once I have your answer. You have said in earlier posts you are in the broader group- so that is Group 2.

The core groups are numbers 1 and 2. People in Core group 1 should automatically get the discount, those in core group 2 are subject to additional test and payment of the discount is not, repeat, not not guaranteed.
