As you may have seen in the media the government has said that they plan to make an announcement about energy bills very soon. The new Prime Minister, Liz Truss, has said that she will outline details of the government’s plan to tackle the cost of living crisis and high energy bills in an announcement on Thursday (8 Sept).

Over here on the Community, I am sure we are all patiently waiting on finding the outcome of the new government energy scheme. It has always been a main prority for us to keep you all up to date and be as transparent as possible.

It is really important that we keep our community open for discussion, and discussion it will become!

What do people do who have just fixed a deal? I’m paying £300 a month at the moment and want to reduce it

Call Eon Next on 0808 5015200 and explain you want to be reverted back to the price capped tariff - Next Flex. I just did that and got through after about 10 minutes. Suspect it will be very busy soon!

After Liss Truss's anouncement what happens to the people who have already taken out a new tarrif...?

@kjunecarter I would check the unit rates and standing charge you are paying on your fixed tariff first and compare with the current price capped rates as i'm assuming you'd only want to switch to the price capped tariff if it's the rates are lower than your fixed rates.

@gazjwilko thank you for helping! I’m clueless to all of this and thought I did the right thing fixing them. Do you know where I can find what the rates are going to be? Mine are mega high

If you are within the cooling off period (14 days) you can cancel irrespective of your supplier. Eon Next do not have exit fees so here you can change to variable prices without penalty at any time no matter how long ago you agreed to the fix. Martin Lewis is already mounting a campaign on this one so expect the energy companies to negotiate with the government on a way to cancel fixed deals if they are no longer attractive given the new "Price Guarantee" - a new name for the price cap.

Hi @Boo

You can either stay on your new tariff or, as there are no exit fees with eon-next, you can switch back to the Next Flex variable tariff if you wish.
