@kjunecarter no worries! Don't worry i was in the same boat recently and decided to fix with an eye on what was going to be a huge rise in prices from October and then again in January. I don't think the newly announced state subsidised rates have been announced. The cap will be £2500 a year on average usage, every person will have a different cost yearly based on usage. The current cap is £1971 a year on average usage. If you go on Money Saving Expert. com there is a lot of good advice.
@gazjwilko It would be usedul if the Government and News sites actually published unit costs of the caps rather than just giving the average figure. Would be much easier for everyone to work out where they stand.
There are two fuels, 3 methods of payments, 14 regions plus additional tables for economy 7/10. It's too complicated for the mainstream media to deal with. I've provided actual and likely unit rates on this forum in the past and will do so again once they're announced elsewhere.
My back of the envelope calculations suggests 36p per unit for electricity and 9.5 p for gas.
Current Eon Next customer, ex EDF, Zog and Symbio. Don't think dual fuel saves money and don't like smart meters. Chronologically Gifted. If I offend let me know by private message, but I’ll continue to express my opinions nonetheless.
@meldrewreborn Thanks for that, it's very helpful. It's entirely possible the government just thought of a figure and haven't actually worked all that stuff out yet either.
Martin Lewis says the relevant government minister told him those on fixed deals can switch to the Price Guarantee rates (but probably only from 1 October) without paying an exit charge. He then goes on to say an alternative might be 30% off the fixed price tariff - the same sort of percentage off that those on variable tariffs will get.
I'm afraid I don't have the ear of a government minister at the moment, (though I've met a few in my time or is that in my dreams) so I'll defer to Lord Lewis of MSE on this one. But no benefit in making a knee jerk reaction on this one.
There is a hold up in the Government defining the rules of their scheme, and without that being finalised the suppliers can't let customers know their tariff details. It's not, in this instance, the supplier's fault.
Everyone will benefit from the discount whether on fixed, variable or prepayment. The only people who won't are mainly those who have fixed rate deals below the new price floor like me. But if you're in that boat, you're already on a super cheap deal anyway.
Just another guy passing by... The unknown tech way...

Thanks for the confirmation. Should Eon be able to tell me what my new direct debit will be?
