Eon Next say my direct debit is correctly set - but still want a one off payment! The email message reads (in part) "We've just reviewed your account and your monthly payments are about right. But, your account balance is currently £104.36 behind where we'd expect it to be at this time of year. The simplest way to get your balance back on track is with a one-off payment of £104.36 on a credit or debit card." In effect they're saying, we don't like the fact that at this point in the annual cycle you currently owe us £104, and despite your DD being correctly set we'd like to get to the point where your account is in credit before the winter period comes. In truth, my consumption is fairly stable across the year, and I'm on a fix tariff through to next summer, so there is no concern from my viewpoint. And I'll get the £400 government support from October to march 2023. So If Eon next think I'm falling for this trick they can think again.

Reason: added invitation to Beki
Current Eon Next customer, ex EDF, Zog and Symbio. Don't think dual fuel saves money and don't like smart meters. Chronologically Gifted. If I offend let me know by private message, but I’ll continue to express my opinions nonetheless.
It seems a bit contradictory of them to say your monthly payments are about right yet ask for more money from you. They clearly don’t like customers having a debit on their account.
Given that you’re not going to agree to their suggestion I wonder if they’ll just go ahead and increase your DD which they say is ‘about right’.
If so I'll argue the toss with them - I reckon by the end of my contract I'll be in credit by £250 due the government contribution. Somebody programming the computer, under pressure from corporate finance, got their settings wrong.
Fair enough. I don’t know your payment method of course but surely if it’s monthly DD then the £400 subsidy that Eon Next get paid to your account would be knocked off your DD so you would end up £150 in debit.
I’m not asking you to reveal how you pay of course but I like to try and make sense of things and keep educating myself in such matters.
Yes you are correct - my payments will be reduced by the £400 so i will end up owing the circa £150. And do you know what, I'm happy about that!😂
EDF have been writing to me about the gas readings. Now, I've a solar thermal panel on my roof and with the uninterrupted sunshine i've used hardly any gas at all, which they find strange. So they sent me two letters asking me to (re)submit a reading, either online or in the reply paid envelope. I did the readings online and sent them the reply paid envelopes back empty. If they want to waste my time i can waste their money.

Just had a thought… and I’m not being critical here…
If, by your own calculations, you will end your contract £150 in debit, would it not be reasonable for Eon Next to increase your DD to cover the shortfall you both seem to agree will occur?
I’ll just get my tin hat ready… just in case.
I'm an Eon Next dual fuel customer with no particular expertise but have some time on my hands that I am using to try and help out a bit.
Yes perhaps. Your tin hat isn't needed though - I'm a fair and responsible citizen who pays their way fully, but if I'm not asked again I'll not volunteer money
I’m sure you know I wasn’t questioning your character. You and I will both pay our bills one way or another.
For me, as long as it doesn’t cost any more in interest over the year, I like to pay monthly with the intention of not having a bill to pay at the end, and if there’s a bit of credit on there then happy days.
