Update: ladies and gentlemen please note that although Digital Energy Specialists available for contact by Twitter PM or hi@eonnext.com can change Direct Debit from Fixed to Variable, one can ***only*** do this on a variable tariff such as Next Flex (Direct Debit Version) and ***not*** Next Online V20 (Direct Debit Version) or Next 1 Year V21 (Direct Debit Version)
Interesting - this must be a change then as I have been paying Variable DD since April 2022 (currently on Next Online v7 until October 1st when I move to Next Online v18)
This update would seem to be at odds with Eon's own Help section on Managing Eon's DD

i hope you are incorrect as it would deny an alternative to many. Can @Beki_EONNext (welcome back!) she’s any light on this?
Current Eon Next customer, ex EDF, Zog and Symbio. Don't think dual fuel saves money and don't like smart meters. Chronologically Gifted. If I offend let me know by private message, but I’ll continue to express my opinions nonetheless.
Sadly I am only relaying what Nqolile (The Digital Energy specialist available) on hi@eonnext.com told me in which they stated the following: - you can only be on a variable payment schedule if you are on a variable tariff and not a fixed tariff
I wonder if Nqolile has her wires crossed - it makes no sense. The tariff is not the same as the Direct Debit as they would surely know. The bill is not the same as the Direct Debit UNLESS you elect to pay by variable Direct Debit (as I have done and hope to continue to do so). If this was a change in policy by Eon Next this would be a backwards step IMO.
@Mailman You are correct it does look like things have changed since you went onto your fixed ONLINE plan as the requirement now is you must have a fixed Direct Debit. 😊
If I may state freely and frankly on this, Anasa, that in my humble opinion (if this counts here), I think that Mailman stated
If this was a change in policy by Eon Next this would be a backwards step
which I agree with this statement because Eon Next have a moral responsibility to help customers have maximum flexibility in their payment plans given the current cost of living crisis, they could do better than this, don't you think🙄
I guess the amount of flexibility reflects the unit costs of the tariffs. The best fixed rates are ONLINE DD, so in order to get these good rates we have to sacrifice some perceived benefits.
The way I see it, you pays your money…
I'm an Eon Next dual fuel customer with no particular expertise but have some time on my hands that I am using to try and help out a bit.
@Landmark Yes I do agree we need to have lots of options for our customers and flexibility and this is why we have a variety of tariffs so that we can try and cater for everyone's needs, we're always working on getting our customers the best plans and tariffs 🙂

However going onto the Next 1 Year Direct Debit version is MORE EXPENSIVE than the Online Fixed Direct Debit version. We already had the flexibility before this change of fixed versus variable Direct Debit options. Why change? It is a backwards step.
Finally for those (like myself) who are currently paying (and are happy to pay) variable direct debit, I assume Eon Next will be contacting them all to get them onto Fixed? You also need to change your own guidelines on Direct Debit management (in the help section)
