Telephone lines (I say lines, it may just be one handset 🤣) are open 9am to 5pm Monday to Thursday and 9am to 4pm on a Friday. It took me about 5 minutes on the eon-next website clicking various links just to find out when the phone lines are open. The times aren't on bills either so clearly there is an initiative to dissuade customers from using the telephone, which may explain why customers find it so difficult to get through.
I'm guessing here but because customers aren't going to move suppliers any time soon because of the state of the energy market, I think eon-next are trying to force social media through as the only point of contact, knowing that customers haven't really got a choice.
It's very short sighted and will have the same negative effect that non uk call centres have on businesses.
