I had a smart meter installed by BG a number of years ago, when I switched to EON a few years ago I was told that the smart meter wasn't compatible but there would be a software upgrade to ensure compatibility. Last year I was told this update would be complete by January this year. My in home monitor only displays the current usage of electricity and gas but nothing else. My online account states that EON are having trouble receiving readings from my smart meter (they have never received any from the meter).
Every time I try to book a smart meter installation it tells me I have one so can't book. Every time I rang last year I was assured the software update would solve the issue and that EON wouldn't be replacing existing smart meters.
Any ideas when I'm likely to get a properly functioning smart meter????
Same issue here. Had BG meters and keep being told by EOn that they need a software upgrade and will be done soon. It's now at least 2 years and still not working!
One of the reasons I switched to EOn was that they said the existing smart meters would still work ok with them.
If it was British Gas installed, you could be waiting until 2025 I'm afraid. Centrica (the owner of British Gas) was dumb enough to make their own proprietary WAN that literally no-one but British Gas could ever touch, making switching a nightmare. It's exactly this reason and others like it that SMETS2 implemented DCC to stop suppliers from being greedy or difficult.
Just another guy passing by... The unknown tech way...

Current Eon Next customer, ex EDF, Zog and Symbio. Don't think dual fuel saves money and don't like smart meters. Chronologically Gifted. If I offend let me know by private message, but I’ll continue to express my opinions nonetheless.
Looks like I'm not alone, over a year and I'm still waiting to hear when they're going to change my meters.
it's frustrating, when you get to talk to someone at EON they tell you to wait for a software update...but it appears that maybe this won't work and I'll need updated meters, but EON aren't listening to me
The DCC are enrolling SMETS1 meters onto their network at pace but still expect it to take to the end of 2022, if all goes to plan. So say the DCC and separately British Gas. But its nigh on impossible to figure out when your meter will be enrolled. In most cases it is a remote process, so its unlikely you'll get a visit to make it happen.
Mind you the initial idea was to have every home and business on smart meters by 2020 (ho ho!) and the target is now 2025. The utopia that is promised is that later this year smart switching will commence so if your meters are functional at the time of switching your meters will continue to work seamlessly with the new supplier. Also your previous data held by the DCC will be available to the new supplier (assuming you give permission) so historical data will not be lost. We'll see how that works out. With hardly any competition for customers at the moment, switching figures must be quite low, so it'll have a nice gentle introduction.
