I recently changed tariff with EON and have received the latest bill.
The Bill shows for 1st April - 30th April 2022
Electric Used = £66.11 (175.0kWh@37.77p)
Plus standing charge and VAT
Gas Used = £52.98 (542.0kWh@9.774p)
Plus standing charge and VAT
But my meter reading shows:
Electric used = £37.24 (175.0kWh)
Gas used = £25.41 (532.0kWh)
I contacted EON to ask has my Smart meter been updated to the new tariff or can they help me understand why the bill significantly differs to the smart meter when the KWh are similar.
I don’t doubt the bill is accurate but the Smart meter isn’t smart and renders it slightly pointless if can’t track the accurate pricing.
EON replied stating :
The change in tariff does not update the smart meter as they are seperate the tariff is the unit charges and standing charges.
is this correct? Should the new tariff not be updated to my Smart meter to enable me to track the pricing. The KWh appears to be correct but if the pricing shown relates to a previous tariff then this is not helpful to me in real-time.
anybody having similar problems or advice you can share?
I agree with your calculations there. While I can't fix anything myself, I'll get the IHD Tariff Update Robot @PeterT_EONNext on the case. He can fix the tariff rates on your smart meter so that everything matches up for the future.
Just another guy passing by... The unknown tech way...

So will this update apply to anyones account who has a similar problem or do I need to contact someone particular to give them my account details to ensure the tariff robot can update my account in isolation?
It's something I can request on a case-by-case basis for anyone who posts on the forum. As long as you've used the same email address to sign up to the forum as the one that's on your main account, the moderators can locate your account pretty quickly. It avoids the need to reveal personal info publicly, which would be somewhat risky.
The only time this doesn't work, is when your details don't match up. In those cases, you'd need to go back to customer service or (if the moderators agree) discuss it with the moderators privately.
I've sent a tariff update to your meters and this should update on your in home display tomorrow. If you din't see any change, please reset the in home display unit tomorrow afternoon.
Pete 😊

At the moment it is better to be on the variable rates, but after October 2022 it might not be. and we don't know how long the fix is for. Potentially its a good move - we will only discover who has made a wise choice after the fix expires.
Nobody can be absolutely certain what the best options are nowadays, so best to moderate one's criticism of the choices of others.

Thanks for the explanation , but surely tariff updates should be applied to all smart meters automatically by the company ?
Unless that is done , folk will get themselves into even more of a muddle.
My meter has only been in use for 5 weeks to kick in at the end of a fixed tariff term.I was assured by the installer that the screen readings would be accurate and in synch with the actual charges.
Just spent an hour trying to work out why that is not so. Thankfully I came across this post .
Could I ask that my meter is also synchronised with updated tariff /daily charges please.
I confirm that the email address used to register is that held by the company.
No worries. I'll get your request queued up for @PeterT_EONNext to catch when he's free.
Everything is supposed to always be in sync, but unfortunately E.On Next seems to be plagued with de-sync issues for some reason. Pete's fix not only corrects the rates for your entire site - including both meters and IHD - but it also helps to ensure it all stays in sync in the future.
