Installation of smart meters, gas and electricity, is arranged for 27th April.
A question about meter readings on the day. Are the readings of the "old" meters taken by the installer, prior to fitting new, and submitted to e-on? Or is it my responsibility to submit readings? Presumably the new meters start at zero?
Will a bill be generated for those final old meter readings and a new meter submission date coincide with the installtion?
I do take a picture of my meters anyway when submitting readings monthly just prior to billing date.
There's not much information about this, or I can't easily find it!
Thanks for swinging by! So the enginner is likely to read your old meter for you, however it is up to them and some of them choose not to. I would recommend you submiting the old reading in the morning of the installation just so you know we 100% have it!
As for the smart meter, that should start communicating with us and pulling reads, but I would also keep an eye on it and submit a reading if we do not pull one automatically after 30 days π

Just to add a, hopefully, final comment.
Meters are due to be installed today (27th). I have received e-mails and text messages to remind me of this. Messages advising what will happen, stay in a different room to the installer etc..
Not once, and maybe this could be passed on as a suggestion, has there been anything to recommend taking meter readings before installation and submitting them, as suggested by Hannah.
I would have done it anyway but many wouldn't.
A bit of feedback re the meter installation. It went really well, no problems. He was at my house more than two hours. Telephoned 30 minutes prior to arriving, in an e-on liveried van, at exactly 2.30pm as he said.
Very professional and friendly. Electricity was off for amost an hour while that meter was installed. Gas meter took a bit longer, only because he carried out various pressure, pressure loss and safety checks, e.g. soapy water leak detection. New pressure regulator fitted too.
He did record and submit meter readings intially. New meters were at zero. He also left cards with old and new meter readings recorded on them.
10/10.π

Selective quote. Thanks for the compliment Hannah.
