    Hi

I just have question about the pay as you go meter. So I have a card and a key and I’ve topped up £10 on each but I haven’t yet moved in the house yet. So nothing is being used yet when I check how much is left I have £8 left and I don’t understand how when nothing is being used ?
sorry if this is a silly questions it’s my first time moving out

Just so you're aware, you will not be responsible for repaying the debt of a previous tenant/customer, nor will you be expected to pay it off. The debt will still be owed of course, but it'll be up to E.On to chase that up with the previous tenant rather than with you, so you shouldn't get any debt collection letters coming your way. If you get any that are addressed to the previous tenant, please return them to the sender and mark the envelope as "No longer at this address".

If you have accidentally paid off any such debt, you'll be entitled to a full refund of all overpayments and the debt will be wiped off the meters completely. This may take a while to sort out and may require several top-ups to collect all the necessary data and reprogram the meters via your electric key and gas card, but it can definitely be sorted out. I think most refunds can either be issued in cash form (usually via cheque), or as a free meter credit depending on what's agreed. You won't have to pay that back either. :)

    Hi @Khlood ,

Chances are that's probably for Standing Charges, which still need to be paid even if you're using absolutely no electricity. It might be possible to get refunds though in these circumstances but I'd need to ask @DebF_EONNext to check that.

In the meantime, please make sure the meters stay in credit and keep them topped up so your supply doesn't go off.

Hey @Khlood welcome to the community!

I'm Deb one of the community co-ordinators on the forum. @theunknowntech is correct that you will still have to pay for standing charges even if no electricity is being used, think of it a bit like line rental it pays for the upkeep of the meter and everyone has them. Unfortunately we don't refund standing charges if the meter is still installed.

It might be worth checking if there is any debt on the meter Khlood as if the previous tenant had debt it may not have been wiped yet.

For electricity you can check this by popping your key in the meter then scrolling through to screens S & T. These will show how much debt is on there and the weekly repayment rate.

For gas pop your card in the meter and scroll through to screens 25, 26 and 27 these will show the repayment rates and how much debt is on the meter.

If you find that there is some debt on there from the previous tenant / owner get in touch with our energy specialists either by social media or phone and they will be able to help with this 😀
