In the last two months my electric usage has been double what i would expect, i taken my readings daily and enter the information into a app, the usage has been roughly double my normal use going back years,
Initially i thought it was our fault, put with people working from home last year we used similar to our average use,
After weeks of investigating, i was convinced the import meter was now counting my solar generation, (i have Solar PV ) esp when one one sunday, out all day from 7-30-22-00, nobody in the house we consumed 16kwh, Pv generated 10 kwh,
i have a new smart meter fitted as part of a new tariff, and the difference is amazing
week before new meter fitted 113kwh consumed, week after smart meter 46kwh,
who do i need to contact to get some of my money back ?
@rosstac Do you know if your Smart Meter is a first Generation or a 2nd Generation Smart meter? I have Solar PV and keep refusing to have smart meters installed for two reasons. One it's not a Legal requirement and 2 (and most importantly) there have been so many issues with the 1st Generation Smart Meters and Solar PV.
When they install the Smart meters you don't get a choice which Smart Meter Generation they install which is why you need to state you have Solar PV but even then they may still install a 1st Generation Meter. This isn't just an E.on problem. People from many other suppliers have had a similar issue.
It would be worth you checking which Generation of Meter was installed.
@rosstac Sorry, I miss read your comment but I'm leaving the comment there just incase you do develop issues in the future. Plus it's always worth knowing that the 1st Generation Smart Meter has some issues with Solar PV.
Definitely something odd happened with your previous meter and the only thing I would suggest is you send them an email with all the details and hopefully they can rectify the problem for you and reimburse the money you're owed.
Actually, even SMETS1 meters are capable of dealing with reverse energy detections without clocking backwards. It's only the really ancient traditional meters that cannot handle this scenario at all and go backwards because of it. We're talking of a meter that's probably over 15 or 20 years old, not an 8 year old smart meter.
Back in the olden days, no-one ever really considered the possibility of meter tampering to be a thing, let alone reverse energy caused by exports, so the early meters right up until around the late 90's/early 2000's were never capable of dealing with it.
SMETS1 installs have all but ceased now for everyone except a minority of edge cases. Over 99% of newly installed smart meters are now SMETS2 instead.
Just another guy passing by... The unknown tech way...

The new smart is a Smets2,
i have had the solar panels for 12 years and the old meter was about the same,
ive had no issues until Feb this year consumption was 658KWh, on average Feb is usually 343kwh, March this year 554 kwh average 311 kwh,
i don't know who to get in touch with
