I don’t think we’re in disagreement here. I do know that one of us likes smart meters and the other one doesn’t.
When the tariff changes but the IHD doesn’t, I still get a rough idea of the daily cost by looking at what monetary amount is showing under the old tariff and doing a bit of mental arithmetic. If I want to be more precise then I look at the consumption.
I now have the Bright App so I can always check on there.
Here’s the benefit of an up-to-date IHD and why I like it. My wife, having seen £10+ on there for a few days following my tariff change and subsequent IHD update, has become the house energy consumption police chief and is making constant efforts to cut down. She’s not really into kWh and SCs but a daily usage in £s that rises by the minute catches her eye and she questions why we’re spending so much.
I do believe smart meters help us cut down, and even more so now with big numbers appearing after the pound sign.
There’s a lot of technology behind them and all I’m asking for is that they update without user intervention when the tariff changes. When the tariffs increase they appear on the bill soon enough and the DD changes soon enough. So why does the poor old IHD get left behind?
I still don’t think it’s a big ask, and if it is, then I don’t know why.
I'm an Eon Next dual fuel customer with no particular expertise but have some time on my hands that I am using to try and help out a bit.
