I moved into a new build house in Sept 2020 which came with an Eon IHD supposedly connected to the smart gas and electric meters. It's connected to electric but Never to gas. I have contacted Eon directly by phone as follows with my notes on each discussion;
Approx July 2021 advice was 'Please contact our Smart Team on 0345 366 5973 (Monday to Friday 9am-5pm). They will help you to fix the Gas Smart meter'
16 Aug contacted Eon by phone, they raised a requested for the data management people to advise on getting gas meter connected, will contact me when done.
24 Nov, 17 minute call on hold, person explained that I could make a complaint then I got cut off mid sentence. Reconnected, and was told the gas Smart meter is not working, and that 'DCC' will get in touch.
It's now March 2022 and I haven't heard anything. Does anyone know how I can get this fixed and make a complaint about this, without going through the intolerable button pressing, on hold, non-action of the call centre? Any advice appreciated. I'm at the end of contract, going on to variable tariff and as far as I can tell if I change provider the smart meters become bricks and can't port to a new supplier...? If they can be ported I want Eon to sort things as a new supplier will probably say it's the former supplier's problem and nobody will take responsibility.
You've discovered theunknowntech! The first thing you should know about theunknowntech is that I'm completely independent of E.On as I'm a forum volunteer. I might be able to help with at least diagnosing this one. I could do with photos of everything though, if you're OK with that. I promise it'll be worth your time!
Also, has the gas meter still sent readings to E.On during this time? That info would help me out a lot.
Just another guy passing by... The unknown tech way...

Hi, I have the SmartView 2. The main meter was installed 2 years ago and is EDMI GS-60B. I have had the IHD for about 5 years. The electricity display works fine. Problems with the gas display. In no particular order: 1 units in MWH, 2. the live display shows MW/hr = 7, 3. black triangle icon with exclamation mark by the time, 4. Supply Status is "off" even the the boiler has been burning gas on and off for the last hour, 5. the display shows the m3 to be 1000x higher.
I did try and sort this out a few years ago but got no-where with the EON Help guys who never rang back in the end.
Well, you have SMETS2 meters at least, which can be transferred between suppliers while retaining smart functionality. At first glance, I don't think this is an IHD issue (for once), but more of a gas meter issue. I'll ask @PeterT_EONNext to try and grab a reading out of it and see if he can get any luck with a reading that makes sense.
However... I'm also tempted to call out your IHD as possibly faulty, which wouldn't surprise me because it's an IHDL SmartView 2. Feel free to check out my recommendations as to possible replacements. If you ask E.On Next to replace the IHD, you'll just end up with the terrible SmartView 2 again. :(
Hi Unknown Tech Guy, thanks for the reply. Nothing has been sent to Eon by the gas meter, and nothing to the IHD. SO likely there's a problem with the meter itself, and it's method of comms. Probably a simple fix if Eon could be bothered to advise or do anything useful.
