The maximum amount per top-up is about £55 on an electric key and £49 on a gas card. Both can hold up to £250 at a time. Likewise, the meters can stash no more than £250 of credit at once.
Please don't use this as a means to underpay post April however, as all suppliers have wised up to this trick and reserve the right to place a debt on the meter to recover the underpayments. The rates apply from the 1st April, not when you last topped up and you'll still owe that amount anyway. Any usage prior to the 1st April will continue to be charged at the current rates.

Many people I'm sure will try this but it won't mean you can get cheaper electric it will still be charged at the rate that's set for you and yes as unknowntech stated ull probably just end up with a extra charge onto of wat you have already payed
your figures are slightly out on the meter limits. we have been trying to find out what happens to this credit, no one at eon seems to be able to tell us exactly, for several years now we have never had less than appx 200 on each so it wasn't to try and cheat them, just a thing we have always done, as it suits us, worry-free then.
