i find feigned deafness is the answer, one of the benefits of being chronically gifted.😇
Current Eon Next customer, ex EDF, Zog and Symbio. Don't think dual fuel saves money and don't like smart meters. Chronologically Gifted. If I offend let me know by private message, but I’ll continue to express my opinions nonetheless.
Me, thinking to myself: 'At last...the penny drops...'
Don't shoot me, I'm only the piano player. I DON'T work for or on behalf of EON.Next, but am willing to try and help if I can. Not on mains gas, mobile network or mains drainage. House heated almost entirely by baby dragons.
I put the stat down to 17 during the night which means no consumption. The stat has 6 time periods per day with separate temperature levels so it’s on and off quite a bit. We’ve a catalytic converted gas fire with no flue which is 100% efficient in the lounge which we have on some evenings - the wind direction matters.
Although nobody likes the current energy costs, they haven’t yet reached a level that causes us too great a concern compared to much of the rest of the population. But we’ve never liked waste - cavity wall insulation went in in 1978. I think it’s paid for itself many times over, in those days there were no handouts.
There are so many things not to like right now, energy costs are just another nail in the coffin. I've had darker days and managed to make it through OK.
Part of me has serious concerns over the state of play, and justifiably so, but the fractionally less grumpy and slightly more philosophical side of me says there's no point in worrying. Worry is just interest on trouble, payable in advance.
Another great way to save energy is by switching off the telly when you're not using it instead of leaving it on standby! We didn't have the t.v on at all yesterday (had it switched off at the wall too) I've noticed a massive difference in my consumption in the last 24hrs 👀
I'm going to try reading more & switching the telly off too save myself some cash 😃 If you're thinking of doing the same this is a great watch for some recommendations.
We also have the Recommended Reads thread where we have some of our favourite books listed, I would love to get almost like a little Community book club going!

My thoughts exactly! I live in my parents' house, and back in their day, they had to pay for the cavity wall insulation. Now, there are all these grants available. Last summer, that same cavity insulation was extracted and replaced at no cost to me. I'm still amazed that this was possible 🤩

I guess it depends on your TV make but the TV standby power usage isn't that great
I've just checked my TV's standby and powered up usage, and it takes just 1 watt on standby and about 48 Watts when it's powered on.
However the plug I run the TV from has these devices connected...
TV
Network Router/Hub
Google Chromecast TV
PVR
Speakers
...when the TV is on standby the power takeoff is still around 20W (so the other devices must be taking 19W) which is why I use a smart plug to power the whole lot down when not in use.
