Does anyone else’s smart meter shoot up at night when hardly anything is being used. I am going to bed and my smart meter is in the red. How can this be when nearly all electric is off ?? This has been happening for quite a while now
The unknown tech will probably advise with more detail, but as i understand it the display is updated at intervals (30mins?) with the recent usage and if your fridge and or freezer have operated you can get surprisingly high readings. I think my fridge and freezer account for 40+% of my total usage - that's because I bought a meter that goes into the socket and you then plug into that just the one appliance to measure its consumption, completely separate for anything else.

Reason: remove double word
I think I can fix this, but I need to see photos of your Smart Meters and In-Home Display, so that I can grab the right instructions. Could you post them in your next reply please?
Just another guy passing by... The unknown tech way...

Also, the IHD gets updated every 10 seconds for electricity and every 30 minutes for gas. Gas meters only perform a heartbeat every 30 minutes or so to conserve battery life, whereas electric meters perform constant heartbeats every 10 seconds. The IHD retrieves the usage data from the Comms Hub based on these intervals. That's why you can get real-time electric usage out of it, but only half-hourly snapshots for gas usage.
Hi, I have same issue. I decided to watch it and it went up between 12.45 to 1.10am. My night usage is about 100 whatts but it jumped by 1000whatts during that time
not sure but seems like every energy company got that issue, are they secretly added extra units in?

I'd suggest that you have a look at what the Bright App is telling you before jumping to your conclusion. If Bright agrees with what the SmartView is telling you, then a careful energy audit of all appliances etc might be in order. Another thing to look at on your IHD is the 'usage now' function as it may be that there was a single high wattage appliance that came on/was left on inadvertently for a short time (hot water emmersion tank accidentally turned on or someone having a quick blast on one of these 2kW rated 'instant' electric heaters for example). Check that this usage is not repeated over a few nights.
Looking at my energy numbers from Friday, overnight I used between 60Wh and 80Wh each hour varying due to the FF compressor cycling on/off (so a bit less than your 147Wh). The highest hourly on Friday was 0.78kWh (780Wh) from 5-6pm coinciding with the cooking of tea.
I observed it for few days, even 2 nights no one was at home but usage went up between midnight and 1am. Last night i kept an eye on my appliaces too but cant seems to figure out.
Google it and you will see every IHD from every energy supplier doing same

Afternoon and welcome to the forum. I've got to say that my IHD doesn't have that problem. I monitor closely my IHD and meter information. As @Mailman said compare the data from Bright app with your IHD.

No, that is physically impossible. The smart meter is only recording usage, so something is using power during that time window.
I can get peaks overnight if all three of my fridges/freezers kick in, and my PVR does wake itself up at night to check for OTA updates but an extra 900 Watts does suggest that it's something slightly heavier duty. What kind of heating/hot water do you have? If whatever system has a 'comfort mode' then it is possible that it's doing a 'boost' overnight, but if it's gas fired, I'd expect to see a bit of a corresponding blip on the gas usage too.
