I've just double checked and I am on a fixed rate till July 2022 - my smart metre everyday read round £1.20 - £1.50. This is for both gas and electricity - paying by DD.
In the last month its now reading over £2 per day - and no I am not using more power in anyway - if anything its less as I have been away and not at home.
My standing order has doubled as well so when I come down in the morning its already at over 40p? I am at a total loss - emailed EON and got told to just turn the metre off and on again as it may not be reading correctly (very strange response as how on earth am I meant to trust the metre if they suggest that) - I am perfectly aware that energy is going up but I am on a fixed till July!
@AlisonRose3764 Looks very much like you`ve been moved to a more expensive tariff, because the new standing charges are over 40p, and that shows first thing in the morning. pretty puzzling if you are tied down till July.
And no, you aren`t going mad.
The in home display is probably giving you wrong information. The things that really matter are the reading on the actual meter (not the in home display) and your tariff, which you say is fixed to July 2022.
I suggest you take a manual reading from the meter, log in to your online account, post the reading and then see how your account updates.
Personally, I've never had a smart meter, never wanted one, never needed one and can use my brain to work out that my electricity use is directly related to the appliances i use and how long they are on for. I may have to have one because i've just gone for the V11 fix, but hopefully i can just use it as a traditional meter.
So LED lamps use about 1/10th of the old bulb, a kettle filled with too much water uses more energy than one filled with the right amount, washing at @ 40 degrees costs less than washing at 60. And short showers use less hot water than long ones. A smart meter doesn't tell you any of this - plus they cost each customer £21 per year - whether they have one or not.
Sorry for the wait, I'm the mysterious guy called theunknowntech and I've got the fix you're after. The only downside is I can't apply it myself. @Anasa_EONNext would you do the honours please? I suspect the SMETS Command Update Tariff Configuration will probably solve this one.
Just another guy passing by... The unknown tech way...

Hello everyone - I spoke to a really helpful guy and as someone above suggested the metre was just out of whack with what I was using - he actually suggested I just turn it off and save the electricity :) So have done that and have not thought about it since! Thanks everyone x
